Additional memory device for iPad 16Gb Air

A friend of mine has an 11Gb iPad MD788BA and has "run out" of memory. Not having a USB socket, is there any device, other than a computer, one can connect to the main charging socket to act as extended memory?

I'm assuming that this is a 16gig iPad (or a typo).

In addition to Nick's excellent link, I have the two devices shown below - both use 'personal' Wi-Fi networks w/ an app on the iPad - storage is via SD cards, including high capacity ones. Another consideration is to use one or more of the iCloud options where much could be stored there, but only a minimum amount kept on the iDevice as needed. Dave
