Hello,
I have a 2015 Macbook Air that will not install Macos no matter what I do. I've tried Internet Recovery, Installing from USB, multiple SSD drives, Safe Mode, Wifi and Ethernet. It will run with a SSD I have with Big Sur with no issues but it still will not update Big Sur or update to Monterey. It will start installing but stop with an error every single time about 30 minutes into the installation or upgrade. Any ideas on what could be the issue could be?

I've reset the SMC and NVRAM forgot to add that. As of now I'm trying to do a clean install on a different SSD so I don't have access to the system report unless there's another way to access it but it has never given me an actual error code.

Ok, when I get back from lunch I'll pop the other SSD with Big Sur installed on it and see if I can get the system report and I'll let you know. Thanks

Yes, I've tried 3 of them, the other 2 are blank and this one had Big Sur installed.

I do computer repair and it was one I got cheap on a trade in. Guy told me he wasn't able to get Macos installed but I thought he just didn't know how to do it. After trying a few times I started to try the other SSD drives they all do the same exact thing. The one that has Big Sur installed is useable but I it to be able to update Big Sur and upgrade to Monterey before I sell it. So far I've been stuck trying to do a clean install. I'm just wondering what the issue could be.

That's the error I see everytime when trying to do clean install or update Big Sur. Also tried installing other versions.

ok, I’ll try :)

1. there is no firmware password on it ?
2. boot to internet recovery - ideally via wired connection not wifi
3. format ssd first via disk utility to APFS ( GUID table )
4. open terminal and verify you have proper date/time set ( via command “date” )
if not, enter date -u 1109212222
5. close terminal and try to instal Monterey

if it fails, try to boot into safe mode - holding Shift key while booting - and try to install Monterey from the system via App Store.

I had similar issue once, I tried different internet connection - I guess via cellular network - and it did the trick …

let me know the results …
