Hello!
A few weeks ago, the battery on my 2016 macbook went out. For a few days before I was getting warning notices and the battery on the upper right of the screen had a little triangle with an exclamation mark in it. Then it died. In tge middle of using it, while it was plugged in, probably around 60%, the laptop died and has not turned on since. I ordered the battery repair kit from ifixit and switched it for a new one. Plugged it in and waited for a few houss and nothing. no charging noise, no screen turning on. So, I'm trying to figure out where I went wrong.

I know the 2016s have glue that holds the battery in place. I did not use any adhesive, but would that make a difference? maybe I plugged something in wrong? Are there any connections that are more likely culprits than others?

I would think, even with a duff battery the MB should still run, and would suggest a charging issue, this could also account for the battery issue, but not being a Mac expert, I could be wrong.

You might try resetting the SMC;

If you don't have a Mac with Apple silicon or the T2 chip

Follow these steps on older computers that have neither Apple silicon nor the Apple T2 Security Chip.

Laptop computer

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. On your built-in keyboard, press and hold all of these keys:
    • Shift
      macos-catalina-sidecar-sidebar-shift-icon.png
on the left side of your keyboard
    • Control
      macos-catalina-sidecar-sidebar-control-icon.png
on the left side of your keyboard
    • Option (Alt)
      macos-catalina-sidecar-sidebar-option-icon.png
on the left side of your keyboard
  3. While holding all three keys, press and hold the power button as well.
Notebook keyboard with all 4 keys pressed
  4. Keep holding all four keys for 10 seconds.
  5. Release all keys, then press the power button to turn on your Mac.
This may not work but it wont do any harm to try.

Who replace the port? I would take it back to them and have them make sure everything is still working.

All of the 12" Retina 2015, 2016 and 2017 MacBook models can with power applied just briefly display the battery trap symbol when their battery completely fails and then appear dead. Apple batteries were supplied with the battery bonded to the bottom case. The are not glued in place, but held by VHB tape, basically double sided tape on each side of low profile grey foam. Third party batteries vary in quality, but all I've seen had double sided tape affixed to their underside. An AASP and ARS could obtain a jig that supported the various sections of the MacBook when openedso that the flex cables weren't stressed, and cables can easily be stressed without the jig, especially the IPD cable. With a failed IPD cable the MacBook should still power on when power is applied but without the keyboard or trackpad operating. As you have to carefully lift up the front of the logic board to fit the battery contact PCB under it were you taking ESD precautions? Wrist strap and earthed anti static mat. Were the 2 larger and 3 smaller gold plated battery contacts clean? I have seen some TP batteries where the contacts needed cleaning with a fibreglass pencil. Most importantly did you not stress the I/O flex cable, and when you refitted its connector to the logic board, did you feel it click into place before replacing the 2 screws? Lastly, when you first opened the MacBook, did you press the battery disconnect button, and did the power LED on the logic board illuminate before or after the battery was replaced? If it now doesn't its likely the I/O cable assy (USB-C socket assy) or logic board could have failed if you have confirmed the I/O cable connector is properly located as mentioned earlier. Hope you find the problem and its viable to fix.
