After running Onyx on my MacBook Air, the vpn (Astrill) stopped working. Won't log on. Advice?

I'm in a country with internet restrictions and can't just re-download Astrill. Thanks for your advice.

I do not know anything about that Astrill software, but I would take a guess it is still okay and will take another guess that Onyx removed your login password or whatever it is that Astraill uses.

Are you given an opportunity to re-enter any password or whatever is needed to login???

Do you not have a working backup you could fall back on???

`yep, it was the password. thanks dude, solved

Good to hear, and maybe it is best to avoid using Onyx as I have done. ;)

It would always remove some password or goof things up for me even when only using the recommended default settings.

Patrick, Do you use another program besides Onyx?

I've never had an issue with Onyx via the default settings....but sounds like some folks have with passwords.

There is an Onyx "Options" button to adjust things. Within it...there are some options for "cache's". Maybe unchecking these would help with passwords that are being lost:

Of course Onyx support could also be contacted to see what they suggest to correct the issue.

Also...could very well be a bug Onyx is unaware of...and needs to fix.:)

You can try the minimal app from Titanium, Maintenance,

Onyx is a combination of Maintenance and Deeper and Deeper is usually what causes user issues.

I too have stopped using either app, because macOS will do all those things.

Shutdown occasionally.
Restart sometimes.
Safe mode boot.
NVRAM and SMC reset too.

Actually flyboyy, for some small problems I had that nothing seemed to fix, I have successfully used "CleanMyMac 3" that a Mac friend recommended after it fixed some problems he had been having.

It was able to fix the problems each time I have used it, even though it is not recommended by most members of these forums.

So it cannot be all bad, at least as far as I am concerned.

I think I would untick Applications Cache in the Maintainence tab settings although I have never had a problem with OnyX and Express VPN.
The Maintainence app also has the same setting ticked by default in Cleaning > Options and Applications Logs in Log Messages and Reports at the bottom.
Since you have the password and were able to fix the problem you might want to try a bit of "Trial an Error". Untick Applications Cache in the Maintainence tab settings and try again?

Thanks Bob,
I have an appropriate version of Maintenance that I have used in the past and that seemed to have worked quite well.

I will give it some consideration next time I have something goofy happening with my old 2011 iMac.
