My daughter told me she uses Google to do AI searches of here photo library. Cool.

I want something like that for my library but it has to be like iTunes/Music and work with my existing photo library, which is on a detachable 4Tb drive and organized according to my own criteria.

All the apps I've seen either require the library to be in iCloud or to be re-organized to fit the app. Years ago I had a photo cataloging app [name forgotten] that did work with my library, but of course, this was way before AI. I need something like that.

There doesn't seem to be any shortage of them according to the search I did online (not Google) for example;

Some of them are pretty pricey though.

I've already checked all these. None allow me to use my database, or at least claim not to. Some need other software I don't have or is no longer available. Of course, I can only go by what they say, which is why I inquired here. Possibly one of them will do it but they don't say so.

You should ask the developer(s), or see if their app has a forum (community) where others using the app ask for help or offer help.

I might end up doing that. First I hoped somebody here might already know. It would save me a lot of time.

Have a look through this list of suggestions and see if anything would come close to doing what you want, and maybe try changing the search phrase as well if they couldn't think of something better:

Personally I'm pretty happy with Apple's Photos app, it does what I need it to do. I use iCloud Photos Library on my portable devices but not on my Mac so all the originals are stored there which is fine when you have the storage space.
My guess is that it won't be long before Apple introduces an AI function much the same as Google's.
