Macbook Pro Sierra and AirPods

I have found that on some movie streaming services my AirPods don't work.
I have checked the audio settings and they work on other sources from the MacBook but not from the streaming service.
Has anyone noticed this and is there a reason?
Thanks

Have you tried the service, in a different browser, if applicable?

More information would help. Like what streaming services? I use Netflix, Pandora, Amazon Music and Movie, Youtube, etc. All work great with my AirPods. I use them on my 2013 Macbook Air, iPad Mini, and Mac Pro.

Hey Lisa,

Have you tried watching much Streaming Video on that new iWatch of yours??

Of course you may need a pair of modeling/jewelers magnifying glasses. :Blushing:

Not happening. I actually have the text rather large on it already. My eyes do not handle small print or video as well as they use to. Heck I hardly ever watch video on my iPhone. Getting old is not for the weak of heart. ;)

Many thanks. This is a local service in NZ called Neon from Sky Television... It seems to be Adobe Flash based and all other services like Netflix work fine.

I use Chrome for my streaming needs, maybe test it, to confirm it is an issue with Safari?

Are there settings within the service itself that need adjusting? I have never seen any service that did not let the computer control where sound came from but maybe Neon does.

Do you have Flash installed to use for those sites that only use the Flash format??

And I don't know if this helps or is related:
You need the latest Adobe Flash Player to view content on SKYGO.co.nz.

Adobe Flash Player requirements for SKY GO

You can check your installed version of Adobe Flash Player on most of the common Internet Browsers by visiting the Adobe site.

This will also give you the option to upgrade your Flash Player if required.

Hi Lisa
No settings for audio that I can find...Regular headphones work fine as does the speaker and the airpods show and sound (boing ) as connected but no sound. The Neon site has no interest in helping and says it's an Apple issue. Sigh!

Those super expensive AirPods I'm led to believe only play high class expensive audio or approved music by the top Apple Beats guy… :D

Naw, just joshing but they're too expensive for me and I don't know why they don't work. Sorry.

EDIT:
Maybe this???:
I can see that the AirPods are connected and selected as the output device; volume is turned up on the phone but there is no audio coming through the AirPods.

Fixed this problem by putting airpods back to the charging case. Wait and open the case cover to see both case and airpods are showing battery percentage. Then remove the airpods and put on ears, worked again.

no that was not the answer. I feel i is something to do with the "rights" of the streaming service but I seem to have an isolated issue.
cheers

Do your AirPods work with other audio stuff and is the problem only with that specific streaming site??

And it doesn't make sense if your wired speakers all work properly.

Sorry, but I have absolutely no experience with any bluetooth EarPods/earphones.

Well, just out of curiosity, I tried to find out searching the 'net how one is supposed to adjust the volume with ones Mac and without Seri or other device involved, and I've given up.

But I was just wondering if the volume on the OP's AirPods is just turned down too low to hear anything through them.
Sorry, but what a stupid, awkward and expensive design IMHO!!! :Angry-Tongue:

I will assume that the Mac's normal volume controls can an will control the volume on the paired AirPods or would that be too obvious or simple??? :Smirk:

Well I tend to use the app or the device I am connected to for controlling the volume in my AirPods. I have never had an issue or even thought about it so it must be fairly intuitive. I am not always that quick to figure out totally new tech so what I assumed would work did.

When I use my AirPods with my iPhone the phones volume control on the side will raise and lower volume. If I play music the player's volume slider will further control the volume. If I am using one of my Macs, I use the system volume control or the apps volume control. I know there are ways to tap the AirPods for various functions but I don't ever use that. I find adjusting the device making the sound is easier - just like with wired headsets.

Yes the issue is definitely with the streaming site the AirPods work great with everything else.
My inquiry was mainly to see if anyone else had discovered a problem and had a fix.
Thanks for the interest
