This is still working but I don't know for how long. I ran First Aid and got the following:

Running First Aid on “Time Machine - TM” (disk9s2)

Checking file system and repairing if necessary and if possible.
Volume was successfully unmounted.
Performing fsck_apfs -y -x /dev/rdisk9s2
Checking the container superblock.
Checking the checkpoint with transaction ID 20902.
Checking the space manager.
Checking the space manager free queue trees.
Checking the object map.
Checking volume /dev/rdisk9s2.
Checking the APFS volume superblock.
The volume Time Machine - TM was formatted by diskmanagementd (2142.81.1) and last modified by apfs_kext (2142.101.3).
Checking the object map.
error: (oid 0x17eec5) om: btn: invalid o_oid (0x2b29b)
error: (oid 0x17eec5) om: btn: invalid o_subtype (0xe, expected 0xb)
error: (oid 0x17eec5) om: btn: invalid o_type (0x3, expected 0x40000003)
Object map is invalid.
The volume /dev/rdisk9s2 was found to be corrupt and cannot be repaired.
Verifying allocated space.
The volume /dev/rdisk9s2 could not be verified completely.
File system check exit code is 8.
Restoring the original state found as mounted.
File system verify or repair failed. : (-69845)

Operation failed…

It is still mountable and working but I suspect it is just a matter of time. When I run First Aid on my other Time Machine backup it completes successfully. So far nobody has had a way to fix this but I thought I'd try again.

rbpeirce, how did you discover the TM backup was "faulty"?

It's probably not going to help your problem, but you might want to have a read through some of the articles at THE ECLECTIC LIGHT COMPANY that fellow member Randy made reference to recently, and the problems with Disk Utility and its First Aid:

I would suggest the best thing to do is make sure you keep at least one if not more backups of your data.

You certainly don't seem to have the best of luck with your Mac computers and their data integrity.

Just saying, but maybe it just seems that way...

It does seem that way, I agree. I have been using TM for 10+ years and never had a problem with it but then I have only needed it for a full restore twice and I erase it every year.

What make/model drives are you using that are failing?
