Anything better than Gimp for simple photo editing for El Capitan?

I've been trying to use Gimp, but I find it one of the most "unintuitive" confusing apps I've seen. Everything is difficult & hard to figure out! I find myself transferring everything by thumb drive to my old MacBook so I can use Photoshop to do the very simplest of things!

Any suggestions for an app to use with El Capitan for simple photo editing & adding labels, etc.?

Have you looked at the tools available in Preview? Pretty straightforward though not that comprehensive.

But if simple is what you're after Preview may fit the bill.

Gimp is more of a professional-level application. I wouldn't expect to get much out of it without some training.

Check out the version of Photos that comes with El Capitan!
It is a surprisingly competent, and easy to use, photo editing tool.
Open your photo in Photos, and then choose: Image menu --> Show Edit Tools
(or just hit the Return key)
and a bunch of really useful tools will appear in a sidebar on the right.
More good news about Photos...it supports third party extensions for more functionality. See:

In addition to the programs Randy mentioned I'll toss Pixelmator out for consideration. It has a free trial so you can see if it meets your needs without spending any cash.

I really like Graphic Converter too.

However, Funtastic Photos is the type of program that should be included with OS X. It is dead easy to use, has tons of options to play with, and it is just plain fun! Perfect for folks who just want to casually make their photos look great. I don't know why the program isn't better known.

I only recently became aware that there are editing extensions in Photos. I'm assuming that you find the editing tools in Photos inadequate for your needs.
At the bottom of the options in the Photos editing window you will see "Extensions". Clicking on this opens a small Tab "More." Clicking that Takes you to a window in System Preferences called Extensions. If yo Iu are like me you will see Photos highlighted in the left column with "Not Enabled" underneath and an empty window to the right. There are also a number of these extensions in the App Store, just search for Photos Extensions. The above article is handy though in explaining how to use them.

I can't imagine PS was intuitive and required no experimentation, reading, and maybe even training. Everyone that uses Gimp raves about it, and I've been able to get a few basic things done that I needed. I agree that it is NOT intuitive, but I can't make heads or tails out of PS either.

Where I'm going with this is here: If you need a professional quality program, Gimp may well be worth learning since it's free and cross-platform.
