That error refers to the temperature sensor on the hard drive in your iMac. It would help us if you told us which year and model iMac you have. The reason we need this is because later model iMacs (2012 and later) only have one master fan and temperature sensor for the hard drive. Older model iMacs (2011 and earlier) have three fans and several temperature sensors.

What are the symptoms or problems you're having? That too would help us.

Hi chscag thanks for the quick response

I have a late 2009 iMac 27"

I have been experiencing a random black screen I have already done a bit research to find a fix for the issue.

I have done the PRAM reset but no luck.
I have also done the torch test and I can see the screen in the background, so can I presume it's not the logic board?

A few people have said about replacing the inverter board, but apparently there is two different kinds for my model so I am waiting on a T10 screw driver to look inside.

hope that helps

Mark, have you ever replaced the hard drive, had it out, or had someone else do it? These models require a heat sensor kit from OWC if the drive is replaced by anything other than the original model Seagate they came with, even an SSD.

Hi Harry

Mark have a look through this link, in particular the answers by kaos2k and Joe. Sure sounds like Inverter problems with the additional info.

Thanks Harry had a look, but looks like a fix for dark screen down one side, my issue is the screen goes completely black and when I shine a torch on the screen I can just about make out my desktop. Sources have directed me to try and replace the invertor LCD and go from there, chscag said the error I ran on the AHT refers to the temperature sensor on the hard drive I was waiting for a bit more info on that to see if that's something that can be replaced.

Same error code

Hi Mark,
I'm wondering if you ever solved your problem? I have the same, or very similar error code (the last 4 numbers varied, 1277 and 1249 over 2 tests)...

I have a mid 2011 27" iMac, and I guess they have some fan and hard drive cooling issues. Apparently the 4MOT part of the error code refers to fan motor and temperature (MO = motor, t = temp) and HDD for hard drive, of course.

Upon first seeing this, I went ahead and ordered the OWC upgrade kit and installed the replacement hard drive with the thermal cable. I ran the test again I got the second error message! Upon further googling, I've determined perhaps I should replace the hard drive cooling fan! Kinda harder to get to (I've watched a few tutorials in the last few weeks) but I'm contemplating doing it myself... Any luck with your situation?

Do you mean your having the same issue with random black screen or sim error code, if it's the random black screen I not sure if they are related, I was advised to change the invertor board for the backlight and v sync cable which I am in the process of doing just waiting on a part to be delivered. I am hoping that will fix it but if not I will just run it with an external monitor. I don't want to invest too much money on my 2009 machine trying to figure out the issue. I will post my results here ether way.
