Apple Magic Keyboard on an old 2011 iMac?

I was told that the Apple Magic Keyboard would work with my older 2011 27" iMac in its most basic mode, albeit without the various customization features. I liked the Magic Keyboard because it's compact size would fit well on my small desk. I ordered one from Amazon and I found out that, in order to pair the keyboard with the Mac, I must plug the USB-C to lightning cable into a USB-C port on the Mac. Unfortunately, this old Mac model does not have a USB-C port.

Should I try to return this item to Amazon for an open box refund?

If I understand correctly you received the charging cable that is USB C on one end and the lightning connector on the opposite end correct? If that's the case you can use the older USB to lightning cables that charge iPhones to charge that keyboard. It doesn't have to be USB C

Which macOS version is your older iMac running? The new Apple Magic Keyboard requires macOS 11.3 or older. The older version of the Apple Magic Keyboard will work with your iMac.

It worked! The keyboard charged and paired fine with the USB to lightning cable from the iPhone. Thanks.

BTW, that trick should work with many other devices that have USB-C cables as long as you can find the older USB cable with the right connector on the opposite end.
