Hi, I've got an iMac, late 2009, running High Sierra, macOS10.13.6.
When using the Apple Mail program, in the very lower left corner (below my mailboxes), I get something that says,'moving messages' with a progress bar and it's usually moving 12 of 80 messages or something like that. Now, I have not initiated this nor can I find what messages are being moved or to where.
Worse, it's seems to be doing this all the time lately in the last 4~6 months. I can't find anything it's disrupted in my mail stuff but it does seem to slow down the mail workings alot. Is there a way to stop this moving messages once it seems to be started. It could be some sort of malware or something similar but as I don't keep anything financial on any computer all they are gonna get is alot of bad jokes between me and my friends or recommendations of bad movies.

Has anyone else had something similar to this and what did you do about it?

Thanks in adv,
Bob M.

I haven't experienced anything like that, but these sites seem to have some indication and possible solutions you might want to read about or try some of their suggestions:

Hopefully, you can find something among at least these two web pages that might help to fix the problem.

Good luck.

Here's some specifics to my problem in the first post above here.
In the side bar, where it says my email addresses and the usual Inbox, Sent, Drafts, Trash, Archive, I have two email address I use with this Apple Mail program. This 'moving messages' problem I have doesn't say which email address (of the two) that it's acting on and doesn't say where it's moving the messages to. So it's hard to figure out what is happening.

I did goto Mail preferences and to the rules section and created a rule to stop moving messages and that worked for about two days but then went back to what it was doing before. Just now I checked it and it said 'moving 33 of 501 messages'. So I'm stuck about what to do and hoping nothing destructive is happening.
Thanks for your comments,
Bob M.

Do you have Apple Mail set up to automatically retrieve mail from the server?
That could explain the message.

Why do you even worry about the message?
Do you think messages are disappearing?

Maybe have a read here:

And if it keeps on happening check out some of these hits:

I'm also wondering if the 501 is referring to the OS user number that pops up every once in a while rather than the total number of messages being affected???
ie:
OS user number
Your Mac has long user names, short user names, Bonjour names, and plenty of others, but the Unix heart just knows each user as a number. The primary admin user is always given the unique user ID of 501.
