Is there a simple way to export Safari passwords to Firefox? I haven't yet found one.

Even when using Firefox and it ASKS if I want a password saved, and I click SAVE, it isn't saved.

I'm running Mac v. 10.13.6 (High Sierra), Safari v. 13.1.2 and Firefox 110.0.1

The basic issue maybe that Safari stores passwords in keychain and Firefox stores passwords within Firefox.

Maybe the workaround (going via Chrome) at the end of this brief discussion will help.

Um, I tried using Chrome and I believe it requested the same task; that the passwords be imported into Firefox as a CSV file and that's something I've never encountered using Mac/Safari. There's no simple tab for creating such a file on the Mac.

Actually there is: ;) :)

Have a read at this from Apple:

Read down to the last part regarding exporting from Safari as opposed to Importing.

The transfer in either direction requires you create a CSV file. It explains how to do that.

This must depend on the version of Safari.

I looked at mine earlier, version 12.1.2
There is no File > Export > Passwords option, just Export Bookmarks

You have a valid point @krs. The article I linked to was referring to Ventura; and I get the same Export options on Monterey.

However, having referred to my older iMac running macOS High Sierra, that Export function is not there.

I researched this and the first OS to support this was macOS Mojave - apparently not before Mojave.

My apologies to @RMF1949.

There is another Apple support article, however, which does refer to earlier OSs and might help the OP. High Sierra is not specifically mentioned, but what they suggest might work.

Passwords for websites in Safari are as shown below;

The above are the default settings for Firefox v. 110.0.1

I prefer not to store passwords in browsers so use a password manager which can be accessed from any browser without duplication.

Here is a screen capture from my Keychain Access (Passwords) which one of these items contains my passwords? There's nothing clearly indicating that:

Your setup is different from more recent OSs, but I think you need to click on "Login" at the top left under Keychains.

You already have Passwords highlighted which is correct.

OK, then. I believe I'm now looking at my passwords. How do I export them from there? And to where?

Here's where I hit the wall: Step 6. Select Full Disc Access from the left pane.
As you can see from the attached screen capture, that is not an option.

As that's a very recent change, you may not need it; but there is an equivalent in High Sierra.

Try this:

System Preferences > Security & Privacy > then click on "privacy".

On your left, one of the options is "Accessibility". Click on that.

(you've got there as shown in your screenshot)

Now click on the closed padlock, very bottom left, use your Admin PW to unlock it.

Now click on the "+" sign. Then navigate to the Safari PW Folder that you've created, wherever that is, and drag it into that pane alongside the others already there. Make sure the little box beside it is ticked.

BTW, the two things that are there already, should be ticked. You can only do that once you've opened the padlock.

These "google" suggestions are far more elaborate than they should be if importing user name and password is actually supported from Safari to Firefox.
I use Firefox as my main browser, and in the past have tried to import user name/passwords from Firefox to another browser, never with any real success.
