It could be something else entirely but it did work under Sonoma and the only thing I've done is to upgrade to 15.0.1.

The 3620 is connected to the network. I have not tried a USB connection and I'd rather not..

The printer part still works fine but attempting to use the scanner produces the famous -21345 error, Failed to open a connection to the device.

I tried Image Capture in OS Print Center, Preview and the Canon IJ Scanner utility. They all produce the same error.

I think/hope Sequoia may have set something that is causing the problem but I have no idea what it might be.

I think I may have confirmed the problem is with Sequoia. I have a mini on the network that is still running Mojave. While inconvenient, I was able to scan the document with bio problem and copy it to my MBP, which is where I wanted it in the first place.

Now, how do I fix the problem with Sequoia?

I saw that in my Google search but they don't say how to access the printer's control panel. There is nothing on the 3620's physical control panel that looks anything like what they say. I assume there is some way to do this in software but I don't know how. Be that as it may, Sequoia clearly is the problem [Mojave still works fine] and I don't know how to fix that.

Here is Canon's support page for that series printer. Manuals, troubleshooting guides, setup and installation directions, and software updates. I suspect it's something in the settings or setup that has changed, or has to be changed.

As mentioned above, I've already read everything I could find on the subject and it isn't a setting problem. If it were I would have the same problem with Mojave and I don't. It also worked fine with Sonoma. The problem has only occurred since upgrading to Sequoia.

Well, good luck with it. I don't use Canon products for a number or reasons, but I know lots of folks who do. Maybe somebody will come along to either offer a solution fro Canon, or verify that the issue is actuallly Sequoia.

It was Sequoia! There is a setting in System Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Local Network. The scanner was turned off! I need to thank the Apple Discussion Forum for this one.

Maybe try one of the options listed here

I think I would be tempted to reset printer services and start over from scratch using completely new downloads and restarting.

There may be some fragments of old software messing things up so it doesn't work properly. The reset procedure should clear them all up ready to reinstall new.

It just might work. 😉

Or try sharing the printer shut up in System Preferences to simplify sharing the printing if it works with the scanning.

At the link in pm-r's message

https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-mg3620#idReference=Operating System Compatibility

there is an option to check software and drivers for Mac Sequoia 15. There are a bunch of new updates all dated last month. I downloaded and installed them all, rebooted my computer and the printer/scanner, and it works now.

Thanks. Everything in October and November is newer than what I have. I do try to stay up to date. However, I already got the scanner working. See a few messages above.
