Can't export photos from iPhoto to Desktop

Working on my MacBook Pro

I have always exported my photos from iPhoto to my Desktop until just recently. Now when I try to do this I get an error message. I can still save to documents but that adds an extra step for me. The other thing I have noticed lately is that it takes longer to "load" the Finder. Gray Spinner. How can I fix these things?

Yellow Triangle with explanation point - iPhoto encountered the following issues while exporting your photos.

are you able to export files from other applications to your desktop?

can you drag photos from iphoto to your desktop?

Yes I can drag the photos to the Desktop - didn't think to do that, and I in other applications I can save to desktop.

Forgot to mention that the Finder does a gray spin on the bottom left of the screen seems to take some time to load.

as you can export from other apps it would seem the problem is with iPhoto

try opening iphoto while holding down the cmd and alt keys together - thsi will bring up a repair menu which you could try - but best to back up your photos first
