Can't find HP Easy Scan

I have a MacBook early 2015, running BigSur, and an HP Officejet Pro 7740 printer/scanner. A few days ago HP Easy Scan stopped working. I've spent many hours trying to resolve this problem, but HP Easy Scan is no longer available from the Apple app store or HP and I'm unable to install HP Smart Scan. I suspect because it's not compatible with my system setup.
Can anyone tell me where I can download a copy of "HP Easy Scan"?
Any help very much appreciated.
Thanks

I am using HP Smart for my HP Envy, I understand this is the new way forward (or is it a step backwards ;))

I agree with Jim B;

HP Smart is available in the App Store and a quick survey of the Internet suggests that this is the "smart" way to scan ;) since Easy Scan was dropped.

Is HP Smart different from HP Smart Scan? The OP says he was unable to install the latter.

The correct title is HP Smart.

I don't see how an incompatibility issue could affect the OP's Big Sur OS as it's still shown in the App store in my old iMac running High Sierra which pre-dates Big Sur.

I don't know if this will help you solve your problem or not but might be worth a try even if it is a bit dated:
hp officejet pro 7740 "Scan to Computer" on Mac OS Big Sur not working HELP

But things might have changed a bit since the article was written.

Hi sorry I was mistaken about my mac os. It's High Sierra v. 10.13.6
I would like to try to install HP Smart, but when I go to the App Store and click Install (for HP Smart for Desktop), I'm informed "HP Smart can't be installed on "NAME" because macOS version 11 or later is required". Where can I find a version of HP Smart that I can install on my mac.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Trying to install Easy Scan from 123.hp.com/setup - Essential Software (203 MG) downloads and installs successfully, then HP Easy Scan begins installing after a few seconds saying it's connecting I get the message "Cannot install software" "Cannot download the software. Check your network connection, and try again". I tried this numerus times with the same results.
Is there a solution to this problem? Or is there any other software I can use?

Thanks for any help

Do you not have a backup you could restore the original Easy Scan app from? Time Machine should have a copy in Applications from the date before your Easy Scan app stopped working.
Of course that may not help if Easy Scan has for some reason become incompatible with your printer.

Come to think of it, on the older macOS you used to be able to scan from Printer & Scanner preferences. There were two Tabs, one for Print and the other for Scan. Clicking on Scan would use the native driver to open the scanner and scanner preferences pane.

Hi, Thanks for all your suggestions.
I did try to install HP Smart and received message "...macOS version 11 or later is required". I have version 10.13.6.
Don't have any backup.
Ferrarr I tried the link, uninstalled all hp software, installed essential software successfully, but Easy Scan install spends a couple of minutes connecting then "Cannot install software" "Cannot download the software. Check your network connection, and try again".
Opened printer/scanner preferences selected Scan and default printer: HP OfficeJet 7740, then clicked "open scanner" the preview window shows "The overview scan failed to complete"
Any other ideas? Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi, thanks for all your suggestions, I'm not making much progress
I've tried installing HP Easy Scan for macOS 10.13 - no luck, would you recommend trying another version?
I tried updating the firmware version, in device discovery I click OfficeJet 7740, in Update Information:
Cannot update the device
This Firmware Updater does not contain upgrades for your device.

Have you tried calling HP Customer Service or Support and just maybe they might have someone there that can help you get their device working with your Mac. But don't hold your breath from what I've read.

That's how I do it today, on an M1 running Ventura. (Gave up on the constant fiddling with HP's software.)
Don't know if High Sierra had this feature, but it's well worth a look.
