I have OS Version 10.11.6, recently upgraded to El Capitan, and happy to stay there .

I need to buy Pages and it will not let me load it without upgrading to Sierra ( which I do not want to do yet)
I have never bought Pages so the answers I have found thus far about upgrading won't help me.
Thanks!

A warm welcome to Mac-Forums.

This is my reading of the situation, but I could be wrong.

If you have never owned Pages at any time in the past, then I believe that the version currently available (6.0) for purchase, is only available for those with 10.12 (macOS Sierra).

If you had owned a version of Pages in the past, then it would show under the purchased tab of the App Store and you could re-download that version again (on El Capitan it is 5.6.2).

If I'm correct, then sadly there is no way you can purchase Pages as El Capitan has been withdrawn and Sierra is king.

@3Apples:

There is really nothing new about version 6 that you need unless you're collaborating with other users and keeping your documents in the cloud. I rarely if ever use Pages (have to use Office) but comparing version 5.6.2 with version 6.0, it's a wash. Stick with what you have if you don't want to upgrade to Sierra. Just my opinion.

Trouble is, Charlie, the OP doesn't have any version of Pages - now, or in the past. Can't get latest version; only available with Sierra.

Thanks Ian. For some reason, I thought he was just trying to upgrade to the latest version.

But all is not lost for the OP... the free trial version of Pages (iWork suite) is still available from several web sites. (OP: do a google search) If he downloads and installs the free trial version that will allow him to update to at least 5.6.2 and not have to install Sierra.

Go with Sierra. It is rock steady and fast, as were all seven of the Beta Testing versions. What happened to you is what happens when you delay updating. As soon as Sierra was released, Apple scraps El Capitan and corresponding apps.

And thank you for the vote of confidence regarding Sierra. I'm of the "if it aint broke..." school, so hang on as long as possible before upgrading. But relieved to hear your vote on Sierra.

Actually, your comment is assuming and therefore not helpful, which is what people are looking for and grateful for on these forums. I thank you again for your helpful endorsement of Sierra!

And lets just hope you don't have an unsupported Canon printer or other stuff that's currently working… not good news from some users posting here it seems…

Just saying and a caution note about upgrading to Sierra… and just to use their updated version…

Not sure if the free demo still works as mentioned to get the old version, and free if one follows the trick!!! Google it.

have Pages on my ipad and want to transfer to imac

Hi:I have the previous version of Pages on my 3-yr old i-pad, running 9.3.5 version, which I find useful for spontaneous notetaking and want to transfer them to my imac, which doesn't have Pages. My major worry is that if I get the latest operating system for the imac so I can purchase Pages, will that RUIN my ability to use my Adobe InDesign software which is ONLY Adobe Creative Suite 5.5. I can't afford a new Adobe Creative Suite. I have the icloud, so I can transfer Pages to my imac using the icloud, but I then have to save document in text only and I lose my paragraphing. Having Pages on my ipad, can I somehow get the same version on my imac? Thanks -- Martha

Try checking here:

For Pages, check Apple's various sites and specs and compatibility and usage, and I must admit I'm not really understanding your situation or questions.

For iOs and Mac OS X or macOS there are compatible apps but different versions depending on the OS being used. And sometimes they work properly with the same data.

Yes, all quite confusing at times but shouldn't be. :Grimmace:
