HI everyone, I'm trying to configure a USB-serial connection on my Macbook Pro.
After a successful driver install (PL-2303) and connecting my usb-serial adapter, I can NOT see the USB-serial controller. (see screenshot).
I also tried to verify the setup via TERM program, but that is not showing any active serial connections either.

Any suggestions on how I can get this setup properly?
I'm trying to use this connection so I can configure Cisco devices via the devices console port and my serial connection on my MacBook.

Thanks!

P

Is this by chance the Prolific PL-2303 driver? The controller sounds like it will only work on Windows 7 and later. Have tried several of these so called 'Mac OS X suitable' adapters for different Mac users and have yet to have any success with them. Surprised you do not have an Airport Card in your MBP. Also Cisco gear plays hard ball with Macs at times.

Have a read of this link and see if this is the driver:-

If you get the latest driver from Prolific it works fine on my 2012 MBP with Sierra. I've been using it for at least 6 months. Not a glitch. Make sure it is the right one for the version of MacOS that you are using. I've also used their drivers for older OSx versions for years. Of course I'm not using if for a Cisco device, but to control a ham radio so you may have an issue there as well, but in any case you should see the driver loaded when doing what I say in the next paragraph.

Look in /Volumes/Dev/ for cu.usbserial and tty.usbserial to see if the drivers load. ***NOTE: Before looking be sure to plug in the adapter or else the connections won't show.
In the terminal type this: ls /Volumes/"Macintosh HD"/dev/*.usbserial (change Macintosh HD to what ever name you have for your HD). If the drivers have loaded you should get a listing like this: /Volumes/Macintosh HD/dev/cu.usbserial /Volumes/Macintosh HD/dev/tty.usbserial

I see the adapter in Network connections, but that was put there years ago by an older version of the driver. I'm not sure newer versions show up there anymore.

Thx Harryb2448! I double-checked the Prolific link I was using and the one you sent and they were the same, BUT I realized, I downloaded the Windows version NOT the MAC version. DUH! So, i downloaded and installed the MAC driver and tried again and it worked like a charm. Thanks for the help!

Glad to hear it worked.

I'm very surprised that the windows version even tried to install, much less to say it was successfully installed. The installer must do no system version checking at all.
