I am now using the new Passwords app in Sequoia and it seems to be working fine so far.

Passwords can be accessed from its own app or by going to Settings in Safari and selecting the Passwords tab, well that's how it was yesterday! Today Passwords is still working just fine when using Safari but the Password Tab is now missing from Safari Settings.

I can't find any way of getting the tab back and I'm starting to wonder if it is intentional?

That is strange, as I still have the password tab in Safari > Settings. But the only option is to open the Password app.

Thanks for that.

It's exactly how my Safari Settings looked. I'm just wondering if I, mistakenly, clicked on that Password notice in Settings and caused it to disappear?

It's not a game changer, I have selected 'Show Passwords in the Menu Bar' so it's now readily available whenever I need it.

I must confess I got the impression that Passwords would be an app that you could use across all your devices and and replace standalone password managers. From the little testing I have done it certainly seems to be a bit ambitious!!

Whoa! Putting the Password App in the Menu Bar is a bad move! If you open the Password app on your desktop you need a password to open it. If you put it in the Menu Bar anyone can search and access all the passwords without logging in!

Edit: It seems to have reset itself and now needs a password.

The need of the password, is to keep your passwords secure.

Yup BUT I could access it for a while without needing one, which concerned me, but it's ok now.

It is a standalone app. Look in the Applications folder and you should see it. And from my usage, it imported from my third party app just fine, through a CSV file, which was terrific. I think after a while I may retire my third party app.

Yes, I appreciate that, the problem I have with it is that it can only contain the very bare minimum of information, just enough to log you into a site, whereas full blown apps like Bitwarden, Enpass etc can store as much information as you want, encrypted, and readily available, synced, on all my devices and my wifes.

Curious, but can you not store that other information in the Notes section? Here is the panel I get when I click on the "+" to add an account to Passwords:

I have several software licenses stored in Passwords by putting in the registered name as User, then the license code can go in either Password or in the Notes area. I have others that I both have an account AND a license, and the license information goes in the Notes section. And it all syncs across to all of my Apple products just fine, encrypted all the way. If I have an existing password that I want to add something to, when I tap "Edit" I get lots of options, including the same "Notes" area.

So, it may be able to do what you want, although in a different way, it's a change. I totally understand. My wife hates change, so I have to keep her desktop looking just like it did 10 years ago, moving the wallpaper from machine to machine, version to version, and setting the colors to be identical to what she is used to. Change is hard!

I have just started experimenting with this app. It never dawned on me to use it to store license codes.

If I was starting from scratch I would probably use Sequoia Password and find a way of populating its Notes using, maybe, a template with all the various headings. However all of the Branded Password Managers I have tried are very easily customised and easy to use.

I'll see how things develop for the time being.

Yep, works great to hold them. In the "Website, App, or Label" I just put the product, then I can put the license information in the other boxes as I want them. Nice to have everywhere with me, "just in case."

Before password managers became a thing the technology coordinator at the school I was assigned to use a password-protected note for that. During her planning/prep time, she sometimes needed to help one colleague or another with some tech issue. If that issue required reinstallation of software the license key for it was on her phone. No need to go back to her room to look up the key.

Hi Jake

If you have the time, could you gently elaborate on how you imported your PWs from other sources etc into the standalone App?

I'm guessing I'm not the only one who might benefit.

I have done this and all you need to do is export your passwords, from whichever app you use, as a csv file then import that file into Passwords using File/Import passwords.

I have been playing around with the Passwords app and you can, sort of, adapt it to contain additional information in the Notes section. I still believe that the Branded Standalone Apps are better set up for this.

One thing that I haven't yet worked out is how you give access to the app 'on all your devices' as Apple say!

As well as my Silicon M1 iMac I also have an Intel iMac running on Catalina set up with the same apple id. I can't find any way of accessing Passwords which are set up on both the Silicon iMac and my iPhone 13.

Yep, just as Peter (pineman) said, export the passwords to a CSV, import it to Passwords. If you have multiple vaults, or password apps, it looks like Passwords even removes duplicate entries on import. At least, it did for me.

I just checked out the Apple Web site in relation to the Sequoia Passwords App. It clearly states, 'It works great with Safari, and seamlessly syncs between all of a user’s Apple devices'.

So I set up a sharing group within the Passwords app including all my devices and it then showed me a list of all my Apple devices but next to my Catalina iMac there was a yellow triangle and the words this device needs to be upgraded before it can share Passwords!

Tried the method suggested above with Enpass, attempted to import the exported CSV into passwords and could not. Apparently any P/W manager that uses columns will not work.

What does that mean? I used an export from 1Password into CSV, it opened in both Excel and Numbers with columns and it imported to Passwords just fine. I'm confused by that sentence, sorry.

EDIT: I see the issue with Enpass. I exported a CSV from Enpass and it included columns with the name of the column in every row. When I opened it in Excel, there were columns of just column names between the collumns of data. That is bad exporting, all it needed to do was to export the column name ONCE at the head of the file, as the CSV "standard" expects. It's a bug in Enpass.

As a test, I exported Enpass as a TXT file and now I see what Enpass did. The CSV is just the TXT with commas between each item. Not good.
