Cinema Monitor Won't Wake Up

I have a cinema monitor and Mac Mini purchased in 2013. There probably isn't 15 hours on the setup.
The monitor is connected to the mini using a thunderbolt cable.
Nothing has changed in the connections. Today the monitor wouldn't wake up. From the research I've done, that is common for this monitor.
I can't tell what OS I am running since I have no monitor. The mini boots and I can hear it opening the applications like Skype.

Apple support had me connect the monitor to my Apple laptop and that didn't work. The laptop didn't even recognize that the monitor was connected.

The cable I'm using came with the monitor. It is a fat cable that splits into 3 connectors at the end. USB, thunderbolt, and then power connector for a laptop. I'm connected to the mini using the thunderbolt. The other 2 ends are just loose.

Any suggestions on what to do? Apple Support said the Genius Bar won't service the cinema display since it is discontinued. They gave me an authorized service center but I'm afraid they are going to charge me an arm and a leg for a display that has less than 10 hours on it! And this thing wasn't inexpensive.

I see there are all kinds of ways to reset the monitor but you have to be able to see what is happening on the screen to be able to do that.

Help! Thanks

Welcome to our forums.

Can you tell if the monitor is coming on at all? You say won't wake up, but that doesn't tell us much. The reason we ask is because the monitor's power supply may have failed or the cable you're using has failed. And that's right... Apple is out of the display business and will only work on those displays which are still in warranty. Also, it would help if you could identify exactly which Cinema Display you have (year and model).

Thank you so much for your response.
There doesn't seem to be any power to the monitor. I can hear the mini going through startup but the monitor stays black.
I tried the power cable in several outlets and a power strip.
It was on as well as the mini. So whatever happened, the mini stayed on but the monitor seems to be dead.

It appears your Cinema display is the 2010 model which has been discontinued. Actually, Apple is no longer making displays and is currently selling the LG 5K and 4K monitors instead.

I might add that if you should decide to have the monitor repaired by an Apple authorized service provider, you might want to obtain an estimate of repairs before having any work done on it. That monitor was an expensive purchase ($999.00) at the time you bought it so it's up to you on how much you wish to spend on repairs. As stated above, it could be a bad power supply or cable.

Yes, pretty sad. Like I said, it has very, very few hours on it. I have read enough to know this is a common problem and Apple has ignored it. I may see if a new power cable will fix the problem. However, from reading online, the problems are much more significant. Really disappointed in Apple.

Thanks for your help.
