I have a MacBook Pro and an iPhone. I have tried just about everything to clean the screens of fingerprints, smudge marks etc. I once saw that Apple said Clorox wipes are good to use. But some of those have little nubs and seem "scratchy" to me. What is the best product to clean both the MacBook and iPhone screens?

I wouldn't recommend using any cleaner at all - a very slightly damp cloth followed by a dry micro-fibre has served me well down the years and is really all I would use on any screen.

+1 for nickyr's suggestion. Absolutely no need for wipes or alcohol or any other solvent. Just do what he said.

Worked on all my iPhones and iPads for the last 10+ years.

You can also use Lens cleaner and Lens Wipes that are sold at most photo outlets. However, they're a bit more expensive than what was recommended by Ashwin.

Apple has some recommendations for you: How to clean your Apple products

I would have normally echoed @Raz0rEdge's advice but it seems like Apple now suggests that some disinfecting wipes including those by Clorox are okay. I'm not sure I would have recommended that but here we are.

Ditto. I use the same stuff you would for eyeglasses or computer/TV screen.

Damp microfiber cloth followed by a dry one. That’s all you need. Even for your tv.

Apple has just recently got in a new supply of their polishing cloths which can be used to clean screens on all Apple devices. Overpriced like most Apple products = $19.00 o_O

Having just bought the new MacbookPro M1, I tried with a damp cloth but didn't do well. I then tried a special eyeglasses (wet) cleaning cloth followed by a dry soft cloth. This did the trick but now I'm worried I may have damaged the coating. Haw can I check this?

Thanks,

john

Chances are you did not damage the screen. It takes some force and or a strong solution to remove the anti-glare protective coating on the newer screens.

See my entry above yours about the Apple Polishing cloth. That's what Apple recommends to clean the screen of your MBP M1 or any other Apple device screen.

OmniCleanz is wonderful and I got it online at OmniCleanz Advanced Computer and Glass Cleaner
It‘s a top of the line cleaner for screens of all kinds, and easily handles all kinds of finger marks, smears, etc. It’s not cheap, but a small bottle lasts a long time. And no, I’m not affiliated with the company In any way..I just like the product.

I purchased a anti-blue, scratch resistant adhesive edged screen protector. Ez to install and way less susceptible to leaving fingerprints.

for MacBook Pro 13 Anti-Glare Anti-Blue Light Screen Protector...

I have had at least a dozen Apple employees recommend WHOOSH Screen Shine. It takes VERY little and is very inexpensive and the results are incredible. I got two small bottles on Amazon for my iMac, iPads and iPhone and for my 70" and 45" TV, I use a larger bottle of "Screen Shine Pro" with extra microfiber clothes from the manufacturer with coupon code (use "Honey"). Still just takes a tiny bit of misting and then wipe off.

Don't do what I did! After prepping my MacBook Pro for the Apple Tradein Program, just as I was about leave for the Apple store, I thought I would just clean the screen--with

Windex! I hit return too soon. Don't use Windex! It took the top layer of the screen off! My trade in value dropped from $350 to $50.. A very expensive lesson.

I know everyone is going to say eww but I just spit on a microfiber cloth. Just enough to make it slightly damp in one spot. Not COVID safe of course but no one else uses my MBP. Saliva contains enzymes which can break down carbohydrates and fatty acids and I have used this method for 15 years or more and works perfectly but, water works too and the hard work is all done by the damp microfiber cloth.

FIgured I mention this don't press hard either. you don't need to scrub the **** out of the screens. If they are not getting clean just do a few more goes. I know people who have pressed hard or srubbed with microfiber cloth on tv screens and did some damage.
