Hey there..

I need some help. For about 3 - 4 days, I've been using this BlackBook without a functional command + c keyboard.

I have no idea in the slightest why this is happening. I can use the 'c' key (obviously) and I can use other commands like command + v or command + a or command + x..

I have tried restarting my computer... That didn't work.. I went into keyboard settings, and restored all defaults in the keyboard panel.

There aren't any intruding commands that will make this command not work.. I don't even get a 'tink' when it can't do copy as with some other commands.

If anyone has ANY idea why this is happening and possibly a fix.. I would be very gratuitous.. Thank you for anyone's and everyone's help.

EDIT: I have connected a bluetooth keyboard.. It's not working on that keyboard either. 'c' works, command works, just not the two together.. It looks like a software problem.. Anyone know where I can update/repair my keyboard workings?

When you press Cmd-C, does the Edit word in the top menu bar flash? In what application(s) does the Cmd-C NOT work?

Some applications seem to 'dislike' the Cmd-C function, but will readily accept the mouse to Edit > Copy one. There seems to be no rational explanation for that.

One other thing to check is Sys Prefs > Keyboard & Mouse, to see if somehow the Cmd-C shortcut has been disabled.

The only other thing I can suggest at this stage is that you try Repair Permissions, preferably using OnyX Titanium Software for your present OS version.

It's not application specific.. I can still copy by using the menu item in the "Edit" Menu.. It's not grayed out.. Just when I use my keyboard, it doesn't happen.. The shortcut is readily usable.. And like I said.. The 'c' key works, and both command keys function correctly. I'm really not sure.. I might pull out this HDD, and stick it in another computer to see if it's permissions based.. Otherwise, I don't see anything in the Keyboard Pref Pane that's "unusual".. But I could be missing it.. Happens all the time. I'll try that software you suggested.

And I restored to defaults in keyboard for all tabs.. Don't know if that helps.

Anyone else know?

I honestly have no idea why this is happening.. It's such an inconvenience! I hope someone knows how to fix this. The permissions were apparently not the problem.. Help me :(

Yeah, I figured that's what I'd do.. I'm gonna clone this drive to my new MBP.. and then I guess I'll figure it out. I'll let everyone know what happens..

I think the only things you can try now are:
1. a replacement keyboard.
I know you've tried the bluetooth one, and everything but Cmd-C is working. I acknowledge the frustration you must be experiencing because of that. I'm guessing really, but I suspect there's a small electronic 'error' when the Cmd-C keystroke is used.
You don't need an expensive Apple k/board btw, a plain and cheap generic (PC) one will work right out of the box. The only thing you may need to do is to have the MacOS recognise the k/b - a simple press-a-key-or-two process - and then adjust a few keystrokes, eg. the Windows symbol is Command, Alt is Option.
It should be added that a significant number of Mac users have opted for alternative k/boards (and mice). Logitech is a popular brand.

2. A hardware check, using Disk Utility > First Aid > Verify Disk (and repair if necessary). Try it from the MacOS first, but if that doesn't find fault, then insert the original MacOS Install disk, reboot the computer with the C key held down, and then do the DU > First Aid process again.

3. If neither of the above fix the problem, then you're left with reinstalling the OS (Archive & Install). That way you'll retain all your applications and non-OS files. You'd be wise to do a backup of your Mac HD first.

command + c not working

i had this problem where my copy, and paste shortcuts didn't work, and after a little digging the fallowing process solved it for me.

1- go to system preferences
2- select the keyboard
3 - select keyboard shortcuts
4 - click the + button
5 - in the Menu title window type the name of the shortcut (copy , paste , select all , etc )
6- in the shortcut window select the combination ( option+c , Option+v , Option+a )
7- click the add button

enjoy :)
