After going through the new iPhone 12 Pro, I discovered that the compass does not work:

compass.jpg

The GPS coordinates do change, location and elevation are correct. It's the needle in the compass that is stuck in the magnetic North position and does not move with the iPhone's move. Location services are enabled and don't have a case yet. The 12 Mini next to the 12 Pro has the needle moving based on the movement of the iPhone.

Sensor Kinetic app shows the correct magnetic North and moves as the iPhone is moved:

Sensor Kinetic indicates that the hardware works just fine and as such, the issue is probably in the software.

I haven't find any settings to make the needle move; is there some settings somewhere, that would free up the needle on the compass?

If there's none...

Is it time to see a "Genius", or just file a bug report with Apple?

I don't like either of them, but after the "Do Not Disturb While Driving" (DNDWD) feature has never worked on my old iPhone 8 Plus, I am not going to wait.

Come to think of it, I haven't tested the DNDWD feature yet on the 12 Pro, gotta go...:wink:rofl

I would call Apple support. You can set it up at Apple.com then click on Support and follow the prompts. The only settings I know are in Settings/Compass and it's for Location services and whether or not to use True North. You might check to see what's there. I have "While Using the App" and Precise Location turned ON and using True North.

Maybe something here might help get it working properly:

Thanks Patrick, that did the trick. for some reason, the "Compass Calibration" had not been disabled, under the "System Services." The compass does work as it used to in the old iPhone. Maybe during transferring the settings a bit had been flipped for the new iPhone.

You don't happen to have a similar suggestion for DNDWD feature, do you? I've tested this feature today, going 30 - 70 ml/h, and it does not work.

In part, that article says:
What to expect when Do Not Disturb While Driving is on
Here's what to expect when Do Not Disturb While Driving is turned on. You can customize many of these features in Settings.
  • Your iPhone stays silent and the screen stays dark. If someone sends you a message, they receive an automatic reply letting them know that you're driving. If the message is important, the sender can type the word "urgent" to make sure that you receive a notification. Then you can pull over to read their important message or ask Siri to read it to you.
  • iPhone delivers some notifications, such as emergency alerts, timers, and alarms.
  • Phone calls are delivered using the same conditions as standard Do Not Disturb: You can allow calls only from your Favorites, and you can allow calls to come through if the same person calls twice in a row. If your iPhone connects to your car via Bluetooth, calls will come through as usual, and you can use the buttons, microphones, and speakers in your car to take your call.
  • If you use Maps to navigate, your iPhone still shows lock-screen navigation help and gives turn-by-turn instructions.
  • If you're a passenger and you try to use your iPhone while the feature is active, you must tap I'm Not Driving to turn it off.

I'm glad to hear that you found a fix there Cr00zng.

I don't have or use an iPhone so I have no experience with the DNDWD feature, but I'll give Google a try to see what I can find.

Well, there are sure enough Google hits on the problem, so maybe glance through some of them and at least make sure the settings are set correctly:

I guess if it was my problem, with the DNDWD feature not working as you want, I would just ignore the call. I'm sure it must record the number or party that last called you, and then you can just call him back when it's convenient and safe for you to do.

I just sent your name to the Canadian Apple Secret Service. They'll be paying you a visit shortly to explain why you should have an iPhone or else! :p

LOL...:evil
I will then have to explain to them that I am not interested until they can come up with an iDevice Cell-phone that can perform with some of the features that my old dumb flip-phone is able to do using the Canadian 7-11 Speakout cell service, such as:
- Easily fit in my pocket
- Keep a charge for well over a month
- Offer it with minimal use for about $25.00 per year with a roll-over of any surplus pre-paid time after 365 days...
And maybe a few other nice features they could possibly come up with.

Otherwise, I am not interested and they will probably just give up and leave with their tails between their legs and maybe head back to the drawing board.

Thanks Patrick...

Before the Canadian Apple Secret Service has their ways and make you roll over, instead of the unused time.. ;):rofl

I've done most, if not all steps, in your Goole search list and it still did not work. And yes, I ignore calls, text, etc., be that cars, trucks and boats when driving. I'd rather respond late, than scratch the screen on my new iPhone...:cautious:

Based on how you helped me fixing the compass gave me an idea. Maybe some other system services are disabled, that prevents DNDWD working automatically.

I've grabbed my better half's 12 Mini, that does work with DNDWD, and copied over the setting for this feature and for system settings. There were some system services active on the Mini, but not on the Pro. Fingers crossed, maybe the DNDWD will work next time...

Cr00zng, I am sorry there were no suggestions that really helped you in that list I posted, but here's hoping your new settings may improve things.

I am surprised to read that so many are having the same problem and for much longer than they should and maybe Apple should simplify the setup or something.
