Besides the Audio editing capabilities of GarageBand There are...

Audacity (FREE)

Ableton Live

Traktor DJ Studio

Just to name a few (the list would be VERY long were I to attempt to name them all)... Is that what you are looking for?

The studio I do some ad-hoc work for moved from WinXP machines with CEP to Mac Pro machines with Soundtrack Pro - took a bit of getting used to but I think it's superb.

We use Amadeus II to record our podcast, and Adobe Audition (under XP under Parallels) for the post-production and final mixdown.

We do all this on a Core Duo MacBook.

I'd take a look at:

ProTools
Nuendo
Ableton Live
BIAS Peak
Cubase
Apple Logic

If you are on more of a budget then:

Amadeus Pro

what kind of music are you recording? this would be extremly helpful in making your decision, as some recording programs work better with midi, some with real instruments, etc.

do you have any kind of budget for the software? do you have your hardware, interface, mics (if needed), etc? give us a little more info and we'll try and help.

Hey i'm also facing the same problem. Just switch to using mac. I need to cut away vocals of song to make minus one and record sound (vocals) via microphones and edit/paste, add special effects like reverb etc. Mixdown...
Can you recommend me a software that could do those? I don't need to compose music. Just working with wav, mp3 etc.
Really appreciate your suggestion.
Thanks so much in advance, guys.

loads to chose from

Depends on what you need it to do and your budget:

If you just need to do really simple audio editing, then I would suggest AUDACITY or MACSOME AUDIO EDITOR; they are free and easy to use.

If you have a small budget then try BIAS PEAK EXPRESS ($20 download)

If you have some money to spend and want to get serious with effects and processing then I would suggest BIAS PEAK PRO or STEINBERG WAVELAB, however these will set you back up to $500

Good Luck!

I'm currently using Ableton Live 8 Lite... It's really simple to use and works very, very well.

I've never used CEP, was more of a Cakewalk guy in Windows, so I cannot compare... But yeah, check out Ableton, you won't regret it.
