I am new to the Apple operating system and related software and apps. I need to know how to address and print envelopes with Pages. Is there an app that is similar to Word Perfect. That is what I am used to using. HELP!

When you open Pages, choose new document. The template chooser should then appear on the screen. On the left side of the template chooser select "Stationary" and then select the envelope template you wish to use. From that point on, it's just like using an envelope template from WordPerfect or MS Word.

Envelopes

Thank you for your post, but I don't find this as easy to use as Word Perfect. The drop down menu's don't provide what I need to know. How do you get rid of the sample addresses on the templates. How do save the addresses as in Word Perfect? Is there any tutorials for using this app?

Thanks again.

Well, in my early PC days, wife & I used Word Perfect (and I did @ work) and enjoyed, then switched to Word - now on Macs and using Pages in retirement so little need for a lot of 'power' in a word processing program.

Now being use to Word Perfect and disappointed in Pages because the app is new to you is like driving a car in the USA and then going to England and stating you hate driving a car there due to lack of experience - ;). You will have to either learn Pages (and its limitations) or switch to another program such as Word for the Mac (or Word running on a Windows partition).

Also please provide information on the Pages version you are using, mine is 5.5.3, the most recent release - there are Apple guides online for the app but older versions - just google 'apple pages manual' for a number of hits that may help depending on the version you are using; also, Amazon has a handful of books on iWorks (name of the suite that includes Pages) - check HERE if willing to pay for a book or a Kindle edition?

Now concerning your specific question, I opened Pages and selected the 'Classic Envelope' - the return address is a text box that can be selected and the text changed; the addressee text can be highlighted and then changed (see attachment where I've made these changes); I looked at the menu options for saving the address and found nothing; also, I could not see an option for importing addresses from 'Contacts' - I may be missing something since I've really not used this feature but would certainly rate their absence as a deficiency of Pages - hopefully, others may 'chime in' w/ more experience in using the envelope features of the app. Dave :)

Thanks for the reply. When I open Pages, select Stationary, and choose Classic, there is already a sample return address and a sample recipient address that I have to delete. Then I have to click on text to get a box to type in the return address and move it up to the left corner of the envelope. Same with recipient address.
Seems to me like a lot of wasted steps. I find this very user unfriendly. Is there a "Mac for Dummies" book available, as it seems like I am a "Dummy".

Please advise.

Is address for the person you are writing in your "Contacts" on your Mac.If so, you can select that person's contact card and then print the envelope from there. As a bonus it automatically puts your address in the return address field.

@Dave I read a page a few minutes ago which seems to suggest that Pages can use the information in Contacts. As soon as I find it again I'll let you know.

Creating Envelopes

Thanks Slydude. I will have to check out the Contacts thing. I still find the whole process of creating an envelope difficult. I spent several hours late last night to no avail. I am an older person who just changed from PC to Mac. I probably need step by step instructions to conquer this task.

Thank you for your help. I will see if I can find where to select Contacts.

Contacts is probably sitting in the Dock/taskbar. Its icon looks like an address book.

I saw a decent description of this last night but can't seem to find that page this morning.

Create Envelopes

Thanks again. I know where the contact icon is located, but when I open Pages to create an envelope, who do I get the Contacts to come into play in Pages.

I contacted Apple support and they were of very little support. Do I have to purchase software
similar to Word Perfect in order to accomplish what I need?

I don't have the current version of Pages to test with but I think this method still works to use the information in Contacts. Where he says look for Address Book you would look for "Contacts".

If you don't need complex formatting on the envelope and the addresses are already in Contacts you can print envelopes directly from the Contacts program. If you need to address envelopes to a group of people create the group in Contacts first and you can address envelopes to the whole group in one go.

I just tried using the "contacts" method to address an envelope in Pages and it's confusing at best. I can understand the OP having difficulties especially if he or she has been using Windows and WordPerfect all those years. I rarely if ever use Pages for any kind of correspondence, instead I use MS Word which makes addressing envelopes a lot simpler.

I thought so. It seemed that way to me when I looked at the directions. If the addresses are already entered in Contacts and no complex formatting is needed it's much easier to do right out of Contacts.

Hello - difficult to make a suggestion(s) if we know nothing about your equipment or software? Please tells us: 1) Your Mac computer model/year; 2) OS X installed (Yosemite is the current version); 3) What apps you have on the computer that relate to word processing, such as Apple's Pages; and 2) What printer do you own (brand/model).

Envelopes can be printed from Pages or other word processing apps - if you do not have an app w/ that feature, then TextEdit which comes w/ Apple OS X is another option - see my screen capture below w/ the latter open and the page setup dialog box in view - there are plenty of envelope options available - but please respond to my questions - Dave :)

We've been through all this before and you were given many suggestions. Please do not start a new thread for the same basic question. I combined your two threads together here.

Envelopes

Dave,
Thanks for your reply. I have a brand new iMac 21" and a Mac Pro 15" laptop. I purchased these in April of this year. They have the latest operating system and I do have Pages as a word processor app which I am not too fond of.

I am just trying to print an envelope now and them, no big deal I guess I can hand address them with an ink pen, but since I changed over to Apple, I have to learn to do some things the Apple way.

I was wondering about the Text Edit app. Is that available in the iTunes Store? I just want something simple for a simple task.

Thank you again for your reply.

Hi again - TextEdit is already on your computers, i.e. it comes w/ OS X - go into Finder -> Applications; scroll down - I have a shortcut to my dock (see the blue arrows on my screen capture below) - I'm not sure 'how easy' it is formatting an envelope (I've not tried) - I would think that Pages would be a better choice - did you try to figure out how to print from that app relative to previous responses? Dave :)

TextEdit is already included / installed on your Mac. No need to purchase it from the App Store.

If you have the addresses entered in the "Contacts" app on your Mac you can easily print envelopes.

BTW software for your Mac is not include din the iTunes Store. You get it from the Mac App Store application on your hard drive. You can also purchase software directly from the developer.
