I use iCloud for messages on my iPhone, my iPad, and my late 2013 MBP. In general it works great. In practice, not so much.

I realize that when I delete a message on one device that the message will remain on the other devices. However... when I delete a message on my MBP, for example, I expect it to stay deleted. And this is not happening. I'll delete a message. It will be gone for several days - sometimes even weeks. And then after some random time interval, there will be 5, 10, 20 message threads suddenly displaying again. Messages that had been deleted all those intervening days. This happens on all three devices, and when it happens, it seems to happen to all of them. I'm assuming it is an iCloud issue. I don't know if it is all texts, or just Apple messages. The timing is so random, that it is hard to keep track of everything.

As I poke around the internets, I find many people having *similar* issues, but not quite this same one. It's as if some cache is not being cleared out properly. It's been going on for years... certainly not a new thing that came on with a recent update. All devices running latest OS and IOS.

I'm assuming you're referring to iMessages? Unless you remove the individual messages from all your devices, it's possible they might be synced back when you receive a message from the same person again whose message(s) you previously deleted. Try signing out of iCloud on all your devices, reboot, and then sign in again to see if that helps.

Heh. Yeah. The last time I referred to it as "iMessage" on a mac message board, I was informed that the app is called "Messages." So here we are...

Anyway, yes it is what I've always called iMessage.

When messages reappear, it is a batch of them all at once. It *may* be that one of them has been reborn due to a fresh post into an old thread... but certainly not all of them (many are just one-off messages like shipping notices). I can certainly try signing out of iCloud everywhere to see if that helps. Thanks for the assist.
