I've got an MRI on DICOM cd disk. My macbook Pro (Catalina) won't load at all, it just spins up a couple of times, and then ejects the disc. I did download a DICOM program from the APP store called "Miele-lxiv" Reviews were great but if the disc won't even load up I don't know how I could use the program. Please help me!

Welcome back to our Forums.

First possibility is that the hospital or clinic didn't create the CD properly.

Secondly, no insult intended, but you are inserting the CD the right way up? Sorry, but seriously, it happens, believe me. Especially as it only spins for a moment, then ejects.

Third possibility is that it was created for Windows (I'll come back to that).

If we rule out the hospital and the CD is put in the right way up, then you need a DICOM reader specific for Macs. I'm not familiar with the programme you got; but I can say with complete confidence that the Mac-specific DICOM reader OsiriX works perfectly, even if the CD was created for Windows.

I've used this product for many years. Go for the free version - often called OsiriX lite. There is a version specifically for patients. See here: OsiriX DICOM Viewer | Patients

You insert the CD and it finds the DICOM files and you're good to go.

Don't part with any money for the professional-standard version which is horribly expensive - called OsiriX MD.

I can only believe that they created the CD correctly. And I did put it in the right way. I will try the OsiriX lite for patients. But I fear that if my macbook won't even accept the cd, then how would I use that program to look into the cd?

Apple stopped including an optical drive with their portable and desktop Macs years ago. We can only assume that your MacBook Pro is rather old and that it's possible the drive is not working.

Buy a can of compressed air and try blowing air into the drive (not too close) to see if that helps. It's possible the drive has dust covering the lens.

The CD itself is likely okay.

As you say you are running macOS Catalina on a MBP and I know MBP's that can run macOS Catalina don't usually have internal CD/DVD drives (SuperDrives) I have to assume you are using an external Disk player or a desktop Mac. Please correct me if I'm wrong?
