Is there a way to disable the QuickLook preview of homepages saved to your finder? I have Leechblock installed on Firefox, but it's not good enough when you can still simply access a page by dragging it onto the desktop and hitting space (or right-click) to view it. Any help would be appreciated to close this procrastination loophole. I'm fine with using QuickLook for all other kinds of file previews except for homepages / weblocs, where it should only show a a file icon instead when I hit space / right-click preview.

I'm running on 10.9.5 on one system and Yosemite on another.
I already deleted "Macintosh HD/System/Library/Quicklook/Web.qlgenerator" but that didn't do anything.
Here are the remaining qlgenerators:

What is it you're not happy with and actually wanting to do???

Sorry, but I'm lost, confused and must have missed something…

And what's your thing about all the we blocs and qlgenerator stuff???

I want to disable the web page preview you get when you hit space / right click "QuickLook". Instead it should only show a generic "@ HTTP" thumbnail. The reason why I want to get rid of the web page preview in QuickLook is, like many, I get stuck on YouTube etc., so I installed Leechblock on FireFox to block time consuming / procrastination homepage. It would fill my needs perfectly if I hadn't discovered a loophole. I can just drag the link of a blocked page onto my desktop, hit QuickLook and YouTube is fully accessible again, even though it is blocked in my browser.

The "Macintosh HD/System/Library/Quicklook/Web.qlgenerator" is what supposed to stop to open web pages in QuickLook, but apparently there are more components to this function.

Somehow this reminds me of the person that was getting severe headaches from constantly hitting their head against a rough surface brick wall and wanted a solution.

Then one day, it finally sunk into their brain that if they stopped doing that, their headaches stopped.

Just maybe give your problem the same consideration and the problem will go away.

Honest… :Blushing:

Thank you for your sincere words, Patrick!

However, I have found out for myself, that in some cases simply making distractions unavailable for me trumps over changing my mindset. Mind you, only some cases.
For example, I'm off sugar this month, yet there are all kinds of sweet delights still in the house, yet I don't care to eat them.
On the other hand, these procrastination sites that are available on my work computer that I spent most of my days on, those distractions simply shouldn't be accessible, even through loopholes.

Seeking an answer to this QuickLook web page preview disabling question is the main reason I registered here, and I would really appreciate if someone knew a technical solution to it.

Well, this is rather interesting googling for how to even disable QuickLook and there doesn't seem to be much info or help, so I guess not too many want to really do so.
This old article may help:
https://www.cnet.com/news/fixing-quick-look-issues-in-os-x/

But what about using the bazooka and mortar super overkill approach and just move the applicable folders to some same location and maybe compress them so that they don't easily load.

It seems most can be found:
/System/Library/Frameworks/QuickLook.framework
/Library/QuickLook
/System/Library/QuickLook

PS: I'd sure make a new backup clone first before mucking about and moving any system/library folders.

And please note: I'm not advocating or advising you to do so, but you seem adamant that your habits aren't going to change. :Mischievous:

The only other thing you might consider is creating some AppleScript that puts up a message telling you to do something useful and/or plays your worst hated piece of music etc. every time your try a bypass the preventative app you installed.

Good luck.
