MacOs Ventura, M2 Mac Studio, Studio display

Just purchases a Satechio keyboard. Known issue is the F1 and F2 keys do not work for display brightness. The default for Display brightness uses F14 and F15 which the keyboard does not have.

How do i create a custom shortcut for F1 and F2?

Hi

Worth reading the link:

I cannot guarantee a successful solution, but worth a read.

I know it's none of my business, but given the price and all of M2 Studio & the accessories , why not stick with Apple's own Keyboard?

Hi Ian,

No worries... vali d point. Satechi had 25% off so thought i give it a try. Defnitely price was cheaper than apple's. But, I spent all that money on my mac studiop and studio Display, so go figure LOL.

thankx

What kind of a keyboard claims to be Mac compatible with something "known" to be not working?

I use the Logitech MX Keys keyboard which works great with my Mac Studio and MBP for everything.

Does their support suggestion not work???
They suggest:
You would need to create a custom shortcut in your keyboard settings for your System Preferences to do this with your external displays.

Or maybe the Logitech alternative might not be a bad idea.

You can control the Display brightness (and a number of other options) from the Control Centre using your mouse or Trackpad as displayed below if that helps:

I'm always on the hunt for a better keyboard. For reference: My first Apple was the Apple ][+, so I have a loooong history with keyboards.

I also write for a living, so I go through a lot of keyboards. And the Apple chiclet designs of recent years haven't been my favourite, and from time to time I play around with aftermarket models. The most recent one was an el-cheapo keyboard that supposedly had great switches, but in the end was uncomfortable and half the functions could only be enabled by installing Karibiner to remap some keys, but even then there were some that just would not work.

And this all coincided with moving my home office into a new space in the basement... which led me to dig out some of my old equipment, including a nice old M7803 Apple Pro Keyboard, released in 2002 (the old beige model, not the black/silver updated one). What a joy to type on! Plugged it into my 5K iMac running Ventura. 100% compatible, comfortable, just the right kind of muted clicky-clacky sound, perfect travel...

So all of this to say... on your next keyboard adventure, hit up eBay o Kijiji or something, and find yourself an older model Apple keyboard. It might be just what you need!

Or treat yourself to a brand new Matthias keyboard...

Some models duplicate the old Apple keyboards apparently which some good typists seem to appreciate:
