OK, I give up. I have tried to find out how I can get Rosetta 2 on my nice new iMac M1 24 entry level machine? I have tried searching for it but can't find any info?

I have several Intel based programmes that I believe need it and when I try to open them all that happens is nothing. I thought that I was supposed to see the small window below, but no?

Sometimes I wish I had an AS400? I used to know just how to sort those

Are you positive the apps are "intel" and not "universal"?

My PhotoShop Elements 13 shows as 'Alias' . So do I assume that it is somewhere else on my system? An external HDD perhaps?

PSE 18, a later version, shows in 'Get Info' as 'Intel', but I still don't get the option for Rosetta 2.

Try running, well, anything else that is Intel-only to see if it will get Rosetta to install. Something free and simple. If you don't have something else on your iMac already that fits the bill, then here's a random one I have on hand that I can vouch for as working:

How are you opening the app? Try right click, then select open?

I was tryping when your post came in Farrarr, but I have tried the right click with the same result.

Your link to the 'Support Tip' refers to 2 situations. Root permission required or not required? How do I know which one I need? Is that the normal system password?

Sorry to be so thick :unsure:

I wouldn't do the root install unless the other does not work.

I just thought, have you tried safe mode boot? Maybe that will allow you to install Rosetta 2?

I think that I have rebooted in safe mode, held the power button, etc, but got the choice between the system SSD and 'Options' which took me to reinstall, and recovery things. So I shut down again, rebooted as above and took the System SSD option.

I tried Libre Office again and it bought up the 'Quit' window as above. Then I checked my Skype, which is Intel, and that has opened correctly and ready to use. So now I am totally confused?

Will Rosetta 2 show in 'Finder' 'Applications'? Because it isn't there at the moment.

John:

Why are you trying to install Rosetta 2? If you run an app that needs it, the system will automatically offer to install it for you. (as in the graphic example you show)

I tried Libre Office again and it bought up the 'Quit' window as above. Then I checked my Skype, which is Intel, and that has opened correctly and ready to use. So now I am totally confused?

Are you sure that the version of LibreOffice you have will even run on Big Sur or Monterey? It appears that it won't. Rosetta 2 is not going to help.

Skype has already been redone as "universal" and does not need Rosetta 2. So has MS Office and many other apps.

Just because an app says "Intel" does not mean that it hasn't been redone as universal. Most popular apps have already been reprogrammed to run on Apple Silicon.

I don't know John.... we are going to have chip in and buy you an AS400 so that you can get back to work!

:rofl

Hey man, that is a really really really OLD version of LibreOffice you have there! You are showing version 4.3.3.2, last modified in 2014. 2014! The current version is 7.2. No wonder it's crashing!

Look, do this. Download the app I suggested since I can personally vouch for it being an Intel app that works on an M1 Mac just fine, and let's go from there. If it fails to run and fails to prompt you to install Rosetta, then we know we have.a problem with your macOS installation.

What did you download? The app I suggested (Droptogif) or the current version of LibreOffice?

EDIT: I didn't have LibreOffice installed here, but I just downloaded the current version and it is an Intel binary. So if you are able to run LibreOffice 7.2.2.2, then you do have Rosetta 2 installed.

If you are not asked to install Rosetta, then it is already installed.

It is 7.2.2.2 I downloaded Bob. And it also looks as if I do have Rosetta 2 too.

I am now confused over another bit? I transferred my Finder contents from the old iMac and I thought that all was well, silly me! I have tried to open several of the folders in the left hand coloumb of Finder to be presented with this. Obviously the name of the particular folder.

Screenshot 2021-10-27 at 16.24.13.png

I can't fathom out where it is? Most of the folders from the old iMac have transferred OK and I can open and view them. I first noticed it when I came to put some files from my camera SD card and got this

Screenshot 2021-10-27 at 16.31.13.png

So I have just tried it again and this time I clicked on OK and got

Screenshot 2021-10-27 at 16.31.38.png

I did a search on 8058 and found this fix-error-code-8058-mac-solutions-guide I have done a reboot and am nervous about deleting folders or files like that. Also I have no idea how to run a full scan

Not necessarily. If the app is universal or it has been reprogrammed for Apple Silicon (as many apps now have been), Rosetta 2 is not needed and won't be installed.

It doesn't say universal on it Chas?

High S seems to have been so much simpler? But so was everything in my youth
