I have been trying to find a DVD Decrypter that works for newer DVDs. I currently have DVD Backup 1.3 and Mac the Ripper 2.6.6, but they don't seem to really work anymore. Does anyone know of any free decrypter programs that are free? I just want to backup my DVDs to my computer.

Thanks

There are issues with new DVDs and MTR/Handbrake. Many newer DVDs have "Zero Cells" that neither MTR or HB like or work well with. You can get a copy of a DVD with MTR, but it will tell you there are "errors". the errors being the "Zero Cells". The only resolution as of now is to use DVD2OneX to remove them from the MTR ripped Video_TS folder and then re-master the main program.

Supposedly the upcoming MTR 3.X release will deal with this so it may become a non issue sooner rather than later. The forthcoming 0.7.2 release of HB will still not work with them though.

I didn't think Handbrake was even being developed anymore.

Yep. A new group has picked it up and there should be a 0.7.2 release in the next few weeks. I've been doing PPC version testing for them and working on some new "How to" tutorials. There will be some GUI changes/reorganizations and the addition of 640x480 Baseline LC 3 for the iPod. The major changes will be in the 0.8.0 release later in the year and it will probably combine Instant HB, HB Light and HB all into one App. I'll post it and the new forums here once it's out.

Very good to know, thanks for the update.

I'm guessing that it will be in the next week, maybe two. There is a lot of discussion and disagreement within the development and testing team regarding the GUI and they may fall back to the 0.7.1 GUI instead.

No, MTR 3.0 is still in Beta testing. You can read up on it on their Forums.

Also, I misunderstood that last question. The ETR I gave was for HandBrake. I have no idea when the new MTR is due.

DVD Decryption

All,

I have not been able to extract/decrypt a DVD in almost 6 months. I have tried DVD Backup and MTR 3.0 r12. Are there any OS X programs out there that work anymore? Most recently I've tried Pirates of the Caribbean 2, Little Man and Employee of the Month -- no go on any of them! Please help.

Thanks

Do these zero-sector discs really cause troubles? MTR does complain about them, but when I then transcode the disc in either DVD2oneX or in Popcorn, these discs always play okay. I don't remember if I've tried this with a DVD5 that didn't need to be transcoded...

Apparently. I've tried them all. Last year I would use DVD Backup, then shrink with DVD2One and use Roxio to burn. Now, i can't even get past the first step. What program are you using to extract? Any recommendations?
