Sorry if this has been done before,

have a Macbook, and when watching a DVD with either DVD Player or the Front Row DVD version drive starts clicking and then the movie freezes, and occasionally it will put up and error about the disc being scratched or unreadable

other times it just remains frozen, has anyone had this happen to them before? if so what did you do to solve the problem?

i'm thinking that all it needs is a disk to clean the lens?

ta for yoru help

That happened to me today... i had the same problem, it froze and then it told me the disc was scratched or unreadable... I just inserted another disco and the problem was solver... (that means the disc was the pain in the a++)

Front Row sucks. It freezes every single time I uses it.

I've got a similar problem. I've played a few dvd's and eventually they all freeze. They are all relatively clean, and this past week is the first time I even started using the dvd drive at all. When it freezes, the whole computer freezes then I have to do a hard reset. When I reset the dvd is still in the computer but this time my Macbook doesn't even recognize the drive at all (at the hardware level I mean). I then have to do numerous restarts until it eventually recognizes the disk so I can finally eject this. It's quite a hassle, since this usually takes 10 minutes of restarting to get the disk out. I've also tried the 'trick' of holding down the trackpad button on restart but to no avail. Anyone have a clue how to avoid this problem? It's pretty annoying to the point that I've given up using the drive altogether.

Maybe if you try playing it in VLC or Nice Player you would get a different result?

Could be a problem with your CD ROM Drive. I had a similar issue on my iBook G4, turned out it was the Logic Board. You may not have any problems with normal CDs because there's less info to read.
