I downloaded Sierra and the new Diskmaker X6 App. When I try to create the thumb drive on a new 8g drive I get an error.

Tried several times with same result.

I'm wondering if I quit the Sierra Installer too soon. After the download of Sierra was complete, a large screen appeared asking if I wanted to Continue. That's where I did a "Command Q" to quit the installer. Should I have hit Continue and then quit on another screen? I thought that if I did hit Continue, Sierra would have started loading.

I've used Diskmaker before for El Capitan which I'm currently running (ver 10.11.6)

I am currently downloading Sierra again, just in case the first one was corrupted.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Try using this method to create the USB.

And no, you cancelled the installer at the right time. If you hit continue, macOS would have went into installation mode. You would have had other screens to cancel from, but where you did it was correct. Maybe run Disk Utility on the USB drive?

PS: format/partition the USB?

I did run Disk Utility before trying to make the drive. It's not giving me the choice to partition the drive. Here's a screen shot.

I'll try the other method if this try fails again.

Thanks.

If its is not giving you the option to partition, it needs to be erased first. I thought Disk Maker X would erase the disk, before writing to it, but maybe not.

Figured out why it was not giving me the Partition option. I did not select the root directory when I Erased and Formatted. Did it right this time and am at this moment trying to create the drive with Diskmaker. Will update after it's done.

Now I get a different Error. Did a search and found this on the Diskmaker Twitter account. https://twitter.com/liondiskmaker I downloaded his Beta fix and then got the new error that he is currently working on.

Will try using Terminal.

Terminal worked perfectly. Evidently, some people are having the same problem I did with Diskmaker.

Thanks for the help Ferrarr.
