hi all.

using a Lacie external drive with my MBP via FW 800 connection.

i did some research on the problem im having.

i am NOT getting any error messages when im trying to unmount my drives. they simply will not unmount at all.

i drag them to the trash and the icon does not disappear and the drive is still mounted on the desktop.

ive done the full shut down method (turning off the computer and then the drive) but i dont want to have to do this every time.

any suggestions?

Repairing the permissions on the drive may be a long shot but may also be worth a go.

Have you tried bringing up Disk Utility and unmounting it there?

Moved. What does this have to do with Music and Pod casting? Please read forum descriptions before posting.

Too many devices to list
Let's try this:

1. Open up Terminal.app (/Applications/Utilities)
2. Type the following: diskutil eject
3. Drag the HD from your desktop into the Terminal window. This should add the path of your HD to the end. For example, if I drag the USB drive I just plugged in to the Terminal, the command should look like the following:
Code:
diskutil eject /Volumes/NO\ NAME
4. Press enter. If all goes well, a message should be printed telling you that it was ejected. If it wasn't successful, hopefully an error message will be printed.

Resurrecting an old thread, mostly because I have the same problem and our friend whitetar never reported back.

Just tried the terminal command and it did not work. I have a Lacie rugged drive that I too am using with FW800. And it frequently refuses to eject. Often times it happens when I'm using the Lacie as my capture scratch for FCP and I let leave it idle — the drive just freezes up. But this time the drive interrupted a file transfer. And when I tried to eject it, no dice. I recently erased and reformatted the drive thinking that might help. Nope.

Any thoughts?

yea, it's still in use. That's why it won't eject. Make sure all FCP processes are done, and it should eject. Oh and in this last case, the OS is probably still using it.
