After an update to Monterey it became impossible to use FaceTime on the Mac for people on the other end. What they hear sounds like my voice is like super slowed down whale talk. I hear them perfectly, so I cannot record the distortion to post them here. It happens both when I do a video call, or take a voice call. Every other video app, like Zoom, work perfectly fine. No issues with FaceTime on the iPhone. Any idea what is happening and how to fix it?

MacBook Pro mid-2016, Monterey 12.2.1, used with an external monitor and a Logitech webcamera/mic.

Will appreciate your help.

This has been a known issue. This post talks about potential work a rounds - like using AirPods - that may help.

Thanks Lisa. I did google the problem, but did not find a solution.

I read both articles. One deals with crashing FaceTime or not getting sound (not my issues at all), and the other goes through the FaceTime settings on the Mac (my Mac is set up correctly).

Folks, any more suggestions?

Can you try using AirPods? Some say that helped. Sadly, I am afraid it will remain until Apple issues a fix.

I could, but if I get a call on the mac, it will be forwarded to voice mail before I find the AirPods and put them on. But it may work for video calls.

Have you tried SMC and NVRAM resets?

Interesting… I am sure I replied to the last comment a few days ago, but it is not posted!

Anyway, I did more research and found out that this is an issue with many people. Unfortunately, Apple is not commenting on it.
