I have several keywords attributed to each of my photos.
How do I search using 1 keyword while specifically excluding another?

Thanks

A warm welcome to Mac-Forums. Thank you for your post.

You can search for multiple keywords, but I've never found a way of excluding another keyword - using only the Search function.

However, you could set up a Smart Album where you include as many keywords as you like and, equally, exclude as many as you want.

If you need guidance on how to create Smart Albums, just ask.

I mean no offence, but obviously I don't know whether you are a seasoned photographer who has been using the Photos app; or a relative beginner:):);)

Maybe Apples article might be of help, especially considering you seem to have got the photo labels in hand already:
Find photos by keyword in Photos on Mac

And a few more optional choices according to some of these Google hits here:

Then there's always Find Any File.app that may possibly work for your usage:

And yes, welcome to Mac-forums.

No offence taken :) As it happens I am a seasoned photographer with 54,000 images in my Lightroom library with infinite possibilities when using keywords. Which is why, for the few hundred images on my phone, I was surprised that the keyword filtering system on Mac photos appeared to be so rudimentary in this day and age. I have tried to use smart albums as a workaround, but haven't yet worked out a way of accomplishing the same basic task. i.e. all photos with "this" keyword; but exclude all photos with "that" keyword. Smart albums can apparently only recognise 1 qualification of either "is" or "is not". But not both.

Thanks, I had looked at the support article before posting, and it is a very basic introduction. Well to be fair it might cover everything which is available, but not what I'm after :)

Other google searches had not provided a solution either. But I will keep looking into Smart Albums, which I only started to investigate today, but I'm not holding my breath :)

Ian and Patrick

Thank you for your responses.

I have had a a little time to look at smart albums in a more detail.
Whereas I claimed that there was only 1 keyword qualification for a smart album, I had failed to notice the + icon to the right, which gives me another line and another qualification.
Whilst not ideal for my particular purpose it does provide a satisfactory workaround.
Thanks again

Thank you for your reply and comments, David996.

You saved me the trouble of posting screenshots of how you can include and exclude keywords :)

Using the "+" sign, you can have as many rows/lines as you wish - as you've found out.

And with 54K photos - well, you are "seasoned" as you say. Nice one.
