Finder navigation question

Hello, I'm a recent Mac-convert (from Windows). In windows, when viewing files in a folder (such as pictures), when using keyboard navigation to go from one picture to another (using right arrow, for example), when you reached the end of a row, another right arrow push would move to the beginning of the next row.

In finder, however, I've noticed that when you reach the end of a row it just stops, and you need to hit down and then go all the way left.

Is there a way to change the setting so that it jumps to the beginning of the next row when I hit the right arrow at the end of a previous row?

Thank you so much, and if any of this is confusing, please let me know and I'll provide more detail.

Could you provide more details? Simplify your details? Something? It's kind of confusing.

Sorry. I figured it would get confusing.

I was recently viewing photos in a finder window. I was scrolling through the photos in the basic view mode (a grid with thumbnails) by using the right arrow key to go from one photo to the next. When I reached the end of a row, I would hit the right arrow key again (presumably to jump to the beginning of the next row, as I was used to from Windows), but nothing happened (the same image remained selected).

Is there a way to adjust some setting, or is there some hotkey, for making it so that, when I hit right at the end of a row it will jump to the beginning of the next row?

I hope this is a little less confusing. Sorry again.

Have you tried Cover Flow? Or Quick View?

Finder doesn't organize in rows like windows.
In list (& column) view it's just one long row. Grid view is just a "loose" view (ie: not rows per se) but if you "tab" through your files in grid view you'll get similar behavior if it's set to "arrange by name". It will go left to right then down to next row.

tabbing through them works perfectly; that's exactly what I wanted.

Thanks so much for your help

Trying to make your Mac act like a PC will cause you to miss a lot of the great things your Mac can do. If you just want to look at the photos in a folder just select a photo and hit the Spacebar, then use the arrow keys to scroll, you can even do a slideshow from there. If you are looking for a photo that you want to work on just drag the folder to the Dock and drop on "Preview". When Preview is opened with more than one file by either selecting several files at once or by dropping a folder on it you will find a lot of things possible that you can't do when you just double click on a single file. With several photos open in Preview look on the bottom of the window and check out all those buttons and see what is available now. Also check out Previews Tool menu. I keep Preview on the Dock, it is much more than just a quick way to see images.

I think that is where the problem is - when I am quick looking at pictures with quicklook - the arrow keys scroll around until you hit the end of a row. Tab and shift-tab fixes this. Good way to browse an image folder - thanks for the tip.
