I connected my Macbook Pro to my TV via HDMI 3 days ago to watch movies and it worked fine. I have just done the macOS Sierra upgrade and now when I connect my Macbook to my TV via HDMI all I get is my wallpaper. Please advise! Thanks.

Have you got it set to Mirror your display or extend your desktop in the Display settings?

Good thinking. That never occurred to me.

I don't know. I haven't changed any display settings, I don't think I even know how. This issue just happened after I had done the upgrade.

The settings you need are in the Displays system preferences pane. If you have wallpaper showing on the second screen you should be able to drag thawing from various programs over to the second screen. The next time you run the program the screens will appear there automatically. See this Apple document for more info.

Note: To see the Arrangement tab of the preference pane you will need to have the second screen powered on and connected to the Mac. Sometimes, but not often, a reboot will be necearry to make things behave as they should.

If you open System Preferences, then select Display. There you will have the choice to Expand display, which will set the TV up as another screen to use, or, Mirror display, which will show the same as your MacBook Pro screen.
