how to cancel a 2 pass secure erase on external drive?

its taking forever. is their a way to cancel and start over?

The only way is to force eject the drive by pulling the USB cable. However, that may wind up damaging the drive - so you take your chances or wait it out. ;) I can remember it taking a very long time to do a 3 pass secure erase on a rather small hard drive. On a large drive it may take an entire day.
