Hi!

I'm looking for a way to start Calendar using a keyboard shortcut.

I've already done:

System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > App Shortcuts

clicked "+", chose the Calendar app, added Alt-C as the shortcut

. . . but it doesn't work.

I'm using Firefox 55.0 (64 bit) on a Mac Mini (late 2012) running

Sierra 10.12.6.

Any help is much appreciated!

Welcome to Mac-Forums...

Your browser doesn't matter here. You can start any application by hitting CMD+space and then starting to type the name. You can also use this method to switch between open apps. The shortcut sounds like overkill just to start the application.

Thanks, but, I'm looking to reduce keystrokes to two (2) and not use the mouse.

Your solution is 5 keystrokes; too many.

Welcome to our Forums.

The keyboard shortcut you were trying needs a command key. So Command plus Alt plus C could be made to work.

But as Ashwin pointed out, Command plus Spacebar brings up spotlight and typing C, then A will open Calendar.

Or another way would be to have Calendar permanently open in its own exclusive Desktop. One click on the calendar icon and you have it right before you.

Or you can put it in the login items, then minimize it, or move to a different desktop. Again, one click or one swipe and you are there. No need to create some concoction of keys.

How to "move to a different desktop"?

Hi, thanks!

Whats the advantages of spaces vs say, just opening another firefox window and
putting/organizing my sites in multiple windows the way I like them?

:-?

I'm looking for a way to start Calendar using a keyboard shortcut.

Give the old Spark.app a try. It's not really supported but most of it still works:
https://www.shadowlab.org/softwares/spark.php

It works well for me using an Apple extended keyboard and using spare Function keys. One f-key press and launch a selected app. but it has a optional modifier key choice as well, but I don't need or use it.

I'm obviously missing something here. Why does the discussion keep shifting between Calendar and Firefox. If I'm understanding things correctly the browser being used doesn't matter. As has been pointed out by RazOrEdge earlier in the thread.

Bemused. Have Calendar in the dock and it's one click to open, nothing at all to do with browsers.

That can be a educated guess at best considering the various time zones most members are in and their possible time settings.

Just saying…

@ pm-r

How would you indicate which previous post I was referring badshoehabit to?

How would you do that, given the time zone differentials you indicated (but offered
no solution to)?

Hi JohnDohe

Never mind the times and dates, look to your right and every post has a number. For example, I am responding to your post #17 and this post will probably be numbered #18 unless someone else gets in before me.

Best to refer to a post number. I was unable to discern which post you were referring to when you quoted something by badshoehabbit (Sue).

Anyway, how can we help you further. Always glad to do that.
