Two questions with regard to iBooks on my Mac:

1. How can I remove Winnie the Poo from my iBooks library?

2. I inadvertently (OK, stupidly) clicked <Add to Library> and wound up with hundreds of my PDF files in iBooks. When I go to delete one, I get a pop-up asking "Are you sure you want to delete this book from your Mac?" No, I don't want to delete if from my Mac - I want to delete it from iBooks. If I select <Delete>, am I going to lose the file completely?

Thanks for any advice.

Having just tried it, it would appear that you can't just delete from iBooks, which would seem strange. All I can suggest is that you drag and drop the book from iBooks to Finder to create a copy, and then delete it from iBooks.

The best way to resolve that problem is not to use iBooks. Amazon Kindle seems to work better (it's free) and has a wider selection of books. I have it both on my iPhone and iMac.

That's a bit like saying that because you can't remove the Tips app from the iPhone, you should buy an Android -- ie, it's silly advice.

You can, and probably should, have both Kindle and iBooks so that you can purchase and use e-books from both of the largest stores.

WRT to the PDF issue, no you won't lose the PDFs if they are also stored outside your iBooks library. The Winnie the Pooh book is a permanent "sample book" designed to show users how iBooks works in case they have no other books in their library.

Maybe it is true, if you select <Delete>, you are going to lose the file completely. If you want to read e-books, Kindle is also a good choice.

Thanks chas_m, tried it and you're correct, I deleted the pdf documents from iBooks and still have my original files outside of iBooks. One document remains in iBooks, in addition to Winnie the Pooh (apologies to the moderators), for some reason I can't delete it. But anyway, now I just have the few actual books I want in iBooks not lost in the clutter.

As usual you make an unrealistic comparison to show your deference toward Apple everything. iBooks is just not there, period. Kindle in my opinion is the better choice. If the OP wants (or you) to continue using it, so be it. And by the way, Kindle also supplies "sample" books when you download their app. However, unlike iBooks those sample books can be removed from the Kindle library.

I tend to agree that, in general, Kindle is the better APP and source for books. But, strangely enough there are sometimes significant differences in cost and availability of books depending on where you look.

I like older graphic novels, in particular the French/Belgian creations:

Asterix
Blake and Mortimer
Tintin
Lucky Luke

Recently most, if not all, of the above were unavailable from Amazon (pulled with no explanation) but you could still get many of them through the iBook Store.
