Hey guys, I've been wondering about this for a while. How do I make a glowing apple logo mod for my new 2016 MBP 15''? Will that void my warranty? What tools would I need to do the job?

You've paid good money for your MBP, why would you want to risk ruining it? Also, when it comes time to sell this thing, people will know you've "modded" it and that might be a warning sign to avoid the machine. The old machines don't glow, they show show the LCD's light panel through. The new machines don't.

If you do mess something up while doing this and want to claim a warranty service, Apple will see what you've been doing and would be in their right to deny you..

I am aware of that but I am willing to take ths risk. I just want the glowing logo so badly. And I won't bother selling a depreciated machine but keeping it a souvenier. So if you do have a suggestion about an implementation of the mod, I would be wholeheartedly grateful.

I just want the glowing logo so badly.

But it's on the back while you're using the machine; you won't see it, so what does it matter?

Use a sticker.

Exactly! The whole point of me buying a Macbook Pro was for that bootup sound and that glowing logo and they killed them both but made the thing a lot lighter and more practical. How sad;P

I want those features back!

Instead, we got the touch bar to play with.

Good luck..

I tried Google. I probably did not try hard enough. I guess apple might be doing something behind closed doors about the publicity of this mod?

I was wondering if I could modify my Mac OS and give it the classic bootup sound.

I think you can. I saw several posts in another forum where a mod was made that brought back the boot sound. It involved a terminal command or two. You should be able to find that mod by searching. The glowing Apple is more difficult to mod as that probably requires some hardware and interior plumbing changes. If you can get hold of an old MacBook Pro for parts on eBay you might be able to do some swapping and mods. Good luck with it and let us know if it works.

Sure, I will begin fondling the terminal commands for a start.

I found it. It is:

sudo nvram BootAudio=%01

Enter the above command
Press Enter
Enter Your Password
Press Enter

Meh, it's completely false. It no longer works...

The Glowing Apple still has a long way to go. I heard that they canceled it due to concerns over structural strength. So I'd probably go with exterior mod first, then study the internals.

Wasn't the main point of purchasing a $1000-$1500 (or maybe more) computer was because it was a computer capable of doing many things? I find it pretty hard to believe that you spent this sort of $$$$ just for a startup chime & glowing logo!

And if these were the two main reasons you purchased this MacBook Pro...but discovered these features were no longer included...why didn't you return the computer shortly after purchase??

You are right. This new Macbook Pro can even run games like World of Warships and War Thunder at medium setting 60fps and it is such lightweight. It has a nice large trackpad, a vibrant and accurate display and a somewhat useful touchbar. I love the new keyboard as it actually allows quiet yet still fast enough typing. The sound system is also commendable. I can play all genras of music without feeling underwhelmed. Also, I have a friend, an Apple employee so I was able to get the MBP with the best CPU it could have for $2399 tax included.

Sounds like there a lot of things to like about your new MacBook Pro!:) Yes I agree...the startup chime & glowing Apple logo will be missed.

If you are considering upgrading, I guess you know this better that it is better to wait for the newer 2017 mac. Anyways I would still strive on restoring the startup chime & glowing bitten Apple.

The startup chime and the lighted Apple logo may appear to be minor items but they were part of Apples core DNA, items that set Apple apart from your typical laptop.

The real concern to me is Apple has made some dumb decisions by not listening to their customers just to save a few buck on machines that are already the most expensive in the market.

Unless Apple changes, my 2015 MacBook Pro will be my last Apple product. With it I have a MagSafe Power Adapter , USB 3.0 slots and a SD card slot. I do not want or need the inconvenience of the USB-C charging and having to use or carry a bunch of dumb adapters that are needed for these features on the newer Macbook models.

MagSafe is one of the BEST idea's Apple ever came up with. If you or someone else accidentally kicks the power cord, your expensive MacBook Pro does not end up broken on the floor. Why would Apple stop offering it?

Non removable memory, non removable SSD's, and batteries that are almost impossible to replace are a few more nails in Apple's coffin. Keep it up and they will drive away everyone except for the core Apple Zealot.

Apple needs to get their head together and give users what they want and need NOT what they think is OK or what they can get by with. Most of Apples decisions have been cost driven not customer driven. Apple needs to wake up...
