how to remove a partition on external Hard drive?

got a 1TB Buffalo hard drive, as in pic 120GB has been allocated to 'Family pics' . if this partition is removed , that 120GB wil just be added to 'whtbuff' so its 880GB will be increaed by that size right?. l followed instructions online but it still remains. pls help Screenshot 2024-11-02 at 18.27.24.png

Did you also follow the steps to enlarge a partition. When you delete one partition in preparation for enlarging another partition Disk Utility does not autmomatically resize the remaining partitions. You have to select the partition to resize and adjust it yourself.

If you no longer want that partition, and you only want the original one TB drive space, just select the drive name itself and erase it.

That should put it back towards the original one TB size.

It goes without saying but I'm going to say it anyway. If you follow this method make a backup of any data you want/need first.

I don't think Patrick wants to be held responsible for lost data Lol.

I would have thought that any member that reads his forums for more than a few weeks would know that making some form of backup on anything that is going to be worked on is almost a basic fundamental rule these days. And thanks for the heads up and is always worth repeating, even if never heeded. 😉

But I just broke one of my first rules again... That is - Never assume nothing... 😉

I said that as someone in need of doing a backup at this very moment. Something is borked up in my normal backup routine right now.
