Can't find any option how to create a txt file from TextEdit (TEXT edit or what the **** is it??).
Where is it? Does anybody know?
I think that it can save in .txt format by the default, but I want to choose it by myself

This is a little confusing, but by default textEdit is in Rich Text Format and thus when you save a file you get the RTF and other options. If you choose Format->Make Plain Text (SHIFT+CMD+T), and then choose to save it will now be defaulted to the .TXT extension and you can choose the encoding type you want.

Oh, really? Maybe someone changed the default preferences, but it didn't suggest me to save in .rtf.
Thank you for the help (I saw the option "Make Plain Text" but there is no explanation in what format will it save, and that's why I was confused).

.rtf is the default, it's not going to suggest it, it just does it.
I think there's a preference to default to .txt, don't remember (not on a mac right now).
.txt is plain text, no formatting.

You can always save the file, right click it and select get info. Then just change the file name to something like "example.txt" and a dialog box should appear asking what file type to use. Just select .txt again.

Changing the extension will not change the file type. Adding .txt will not change a .rtf file to plain text. Finder hides the extension by default.
Adding .txt will just result in filename.rtf.txt. Saving as plain text will change the extension to .txt, you just wont see it.

"Saving as plain text will change the extension to .txt, you just wont see it."

Unless you change Finder Preferences to "Show all filename extensions"

I tried it. But when I'm trying to save it says that "You cannot save this document with extension “.txt” at the end of the name. The required extension is “.html”." Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 5.34.38 PM.png

Open Text Edit. Go to Preferences (shortcut is Cmd + comma).

The very first item is Format with a choice of "Rich Text" or "Plain Text" — and lower down, numerous other goodies you can tinker with:Mischievous:

What kind of document are you trying to save? I'm wondering why the dialing asks you to save as an .html file. Was this originally a web page?

Also look in the Format menu, fourth item down.
Command-shift-T
Also curious as to why it wants to save as html.

Edit: Ahhh... look at the bottom of the save dialog: "File format:" Web page. That's why. Change to text in the dropdown.
