How to stop Mail from sending e-mails via iCloud?

Of course, I have iCloud as a possible address, but I never use it. Yet, sometimes my Mac (13.4.1) will open this iCloud e-mail account without my noticing. And off goes a message from "iCloud". It's not a big deal, but is there some way that I can set things up so this cannot happen?
Thanks in advance.

If you don't want it or use it, why not just delete that iCloud account from your Apple Mail.app accounts, or at least disable it in the mail > preferences > accounts by unchecking the "enable this account" checkbox if they still provide that option there.

Then it shouldn't bother you at all but would be readily available if you wanted to enable it at a later date.

OK Patrick ...
Wish I'd thought of that second fix myself!
It is now disabled.
Many thanks indeed.
