How do I switch off the password for logging in to my 24" iMac? I am the only one that uses it at home and when I go away on vacation my home office is locked?

System Preferences/Security & Privacy/General is the location. Remove the check mark from "Disable automatic login" and you won't have to log in. But do remember the password as you will need it to make any system changes (install apps, updates, delete files, etc).

Thank you Jake. I will do that and I will never forget the password.

Jake I tried that and there is no option that says "Disable automatic login". Perhaps it can't be done on a 24" iMac on Monterey

i should be there, I'm running Monterey on a MBP and it's there. Here is a screenshot of the panel with the option highlighted in faint red:

Again, System Preferences, Security & Privacy, General tab.

@jeremy14 ,

Do you by any chance have FileVault turned on? If you do, the option to "Disable automatic login" is not available.

Good catch, Ian! I never use FV, so it doesn't spring to mind that you need to unlock the Vault.

Same here. I think that has come up for some of our members before.

Ye, I did. I have turned it off and she starts up without the password. Many thanks.
