Hi all,
I've deleted all my iCal calendars by mistake.
I've found some local files in /Library/Containers/ but I can't seem to get them into Calendar app.

Any thoughts?
Are they gone for good?
I fear they are

Any help appreciated

No backup? Do you have Time Machine running on the computer? I only ask because it can backup locally although it's intended for external storage. You refer to iCal which hasn't been around for some time.
Perhaps you could tell us what Mac this is; model, year and Operating System.

You don't provide any details regarding your problem and how or where you deleted them but here are some suggestions:
Do you have a current backup of any sort that would have a copy of all your data you need?

Try a Google search on the subject you used here and you should be able to find lots of hits and possibly some with some suggestions that might possibly work.

Try here:

And Apple's web page that covers similar topics here:
If you accidentally deleted your contacts, calendars, or bookmarks from iCloud

PS I would think you have been a member here for enough years to have read how critical it is to have a current backup of all your data just for when the s*** hits the fan as it seems to have done for you.

Oh well... I guess it wasn't that important if you don't bother doing so... 😉

Hopefully one of the hits from above will help you resolve your problem.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

Firstly, yes, I have a back up :)

It's more that i can't find the local folder where my calendar data might be.

I mention iCal as that is the name of the folder I found (see screenshot).

My system info is at the side of my post, but here it is again.
MBP, 2012, but largely updated by me with new mother board, SSD, RAM, etc.
Running OS 10.15.7 Catalina.

I have just done a clean install on my Mac, and for some reason my calendars had all duplicated in the Calendar app. So, I deleted the duplicates, but that seemed to delete everything.
Hence my issue.

Amazing, the Restore function on iCloud worked a treat, so thank you for that.

And yes, I have 2 backups, a daily clone and also Time Machine. I'm not THAT dense ;)

Thanks again!

That's good news for both things you mentioned.

Find Any File.app can usually help you find just about any file anywhere on your Mac they might be seemingly hiding and you can read all about it and download it from here:

I'm glad to read you were able to fix your problem.

Me too. Glad you have backups, lots of people are that dense. Yes with system folders a backup like Time Machine is no help if you don't know where to look. Find any File is great for that purpose. If your backup is connected you will see two or more copies of the same files, one on the internal drive and another on the backup/s but the location will give them away. Just be aware of that. It will also display files in the trash so if you delete something don't be fooled by the fact that it remains in the search results list.

I just thought I would mention that this will only happen if you have told find any file to search all this which is not a default setting normally. And to save any confusion, it's certainly is enough to just search a single volume, or even folder.

I understand TM was intended first and foremost for backing up your internal drive?.
