Hi all!

a friend of mine gave me a broken imac 24",
and i would like to recycle the power supply for another project,
however i don't know the pinout, well i could easilly find the Vcc with voltmeter,
I just need to know which pin will switch on the unit,
and if it's a "connect to Vcc" or "connect to ground" system

here some more
ref. SADP-220AF (A1200)
24v@4A and 12V@10,3A

a few pics

cheers

Welcome to our forums.

I doubt anyone here would know the pinout off hand. Suggest checking with www.ifixit.com to see if they might be of more help.

quick feedback on my tests during the last couple of days

imac OFF
1- 0v
2- 3,3v
3- 0v
4- 0v
5- 0v
6- 12,1
7- 12,1
8- 25,3

Imac ON
1- 0v
2- 3,3v
3- 2,3v
4- 0v
5- 0v
6- 12,1
7- 12,1
8- 25,3

PIN 1/5 => O volt
PIN 2 => 3,3 volts
PIN 4 => unknow
PIN 6/7 => 12 volts
PIN 8 => 24 volts
PIN 3 is connected to what seems to be a temperature probe

my conclusion is this PSU has no switch ON/OFF,
it is always powered up

It's been a few days now i'm using it on both 12/24v, and nothing to report

Hi,

I'm looking to reuse the same psu to power an lcd controller board (on 12v) and a raspberry pi (required 12v)
I thought that DC power was supposed to have a + and a - side to connect stuff to, or am I being a complete idiot here :)

Any thoughts on which pins I would be able to use in order to power an lcd controller board?
Are pins 6 and 7 both +12V or is one of them -12V ?

Following your testing I suppose there are no 5v pins on the power supply, so I'll have to transform the 12v into 5v or use the base AC power to convert this into 5v dc

Many thanks,

Steven

any one, as long at you need either 3,3 / 12 / 24V, follow my previous post,
regarding the 12V, both are positive 12V

indeed no 5V, it is probably converted onto the motherboard,
make it simple, convert the 12v to 5V with a cheap DC/DC converter

cheers!

Hi,

Thanks for you quick reply :)
So I should just connect one of the +12VDC cables to power the board and use the ground to connect as second wire I suppose ?

Sorry not big in electronics :)
Ground should be lower left by default I think, not sure if there's a way to test this?

Thanks for the tip on DC/DC converter, didn't know that existed :)

Cheers

if you only need +12V, so yes, that's the way to go :)
ground is located on PIN 1 and 5

good luck
