Hi
Can just the glass be replaced on this model? A search reveals only the display panel assembly available.....

Thanks in advance

Starting at a certain point, the iMac glass was being glued to the display panel and trying to remove that safely is something people have tried and failed. Thus the full display replacement.

Yes I've just discovered this having tried unsuccessfully to pull it out with a suction cup. Fortunately I have since spoken to a recognised Apple repairer who told me that, because mid 2014 iMacs (A1418), are integrated screens unlike those on earlier models which are retained by magnets, they have to be replaced at a cost of around £700 in UK.

I had sold mine but the buyer complained that there was 'dust under the screen'. Unfortunately I think since its return it is more likely that it is pixel failure and I am wondering if he or the carrier dropped it as I can't remember this being a problem before I shipped it.

My 2009 iMac had the glass held in place with magnets, I think it was the model year after that switched to the glued on type.

Probably dust as the buyer suggested. Older iMacs were prone to having dust get between the glass and display. As you probably are aware, the vents beneath the display draw cool air in to the iMac where the warm air is exhausted from the top vents. That acts as a suction for dust and other small debris.

Any slight separation between the glass and display will allow dust to get in. Even though the glass is glued to the display, slight separations can occur over time. I suspect that's what happened to your iMac.
