Hi all,

I hope I have posted this question in the correct place, I am not very technical or much of a forum user, so apologies if I got it wrong.

I am having a problem with all my games on the iMAC (OS Sierra), recently any game I open only shows a black screen with part of the game display showing in the top left corner. I have attached a screen shot.

When this happens only way I can exit the game is to force quit and the game is not playable. To try and resolve the problem I uninstalled then re-installed the games, I also tried pressing command, alt and the minus key while in the game to see if it would zoom out. No lucky with either, remember I am not technical so don't laugh if these were stupid attempts to fix the problem.

I have no idea how or if this can be fixed but I am missing my games, please help!

Thanks :)

G'day and welcome to the forums.

1. Move the cursor to the bottom right hand corner and it will turn into a little double headed arrow. Click and drag to the bottom right of your screen.

2. Move cursor up to where 'View' normally is in the Menu Bar and select last option 'Enter Full Screen'.

Forgot to mention!

Hi and thank you!

I should have mentioned I did try dragging the corner of the screen, no luck. I tried again after reading your reply, the cursor doesn't change. Also I am unable to access the menu bar and select view when I am in the game. I am sure that is down to simple setting I am unaware of but I did mention I am not at all technical! Thanks for your patience, any other ideas? :D

Welcome to our forums.

Many games will not display full screen even though they will run on your Mac. I have the same iMac that you have and I have several games that will only show up on screen as a rather small square box. The problem with those games is that they are not designed to run at the resolution your iMac is capable of. Your iMac is running at a resolution of 2560 x 1440 (normal resolution) but certain games are not able to run full screen or even partial screen at that resolution. Most modern games designed for the Mac will run at high resolutions.

I have no idea which games you're trying to run and only mention the above as a possible problem as to why your games won't run at full screen. Perhaps if you told us which games you're trying to run, we can provide better answers.

Hi - thanks for the info, it is all my games on the mac but I guess the main three are hidden object games I play: aquascapes, barn yarn and gardenscapes 2. It is slightly embarrassing to admit to my guilty pleasure games that are probably designed for children, but I am already addicted and I need them back lol.

I should also mention that they worked fine on full screen mode from the initial install, then all at once they all open with the display issue. I did wonder if upgrading to sierra could have affected them? Apart from upgrading I didn't knowingly do anything different. Hope that helps, let me know if you need anymore info. :D

We all love to play games on our Macs, no need to be embarrassed over that. If the games worked fine after you initially installed them but now do not, we have to wonder what happened that has caused them to not display properly? Check this for us: Open System Preferences, Displays, and click on the Display tab. Tell us what it says. It should read "Default for Display" and not scaled.

Just using the "aquaecapes" as an example, there are several posts about it not working properly, especially with Sierra at the iTunes Store etc.

If it worked before, then I'd suspect that Sierra killed it if the suggestions chscag made don't improve things.

Maybe try contacting the developers if you have any contact info, but often hard to do if they came via the Apple App Store.
