Iff you want to use the camera on your iMac, you need to use PhotoBooth. If PhotoBooth does not see the camera, then you have an issue.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Image Capture and Photo Booth are designed to do different things.

Thanks Ian until I read your post I completely missed the bit about Photo Booth. That could well be the source of confusion.

Please provide some more information on our iMac (model/year) - Facetime when opened activates the front camera on my MBPro's monitor (the small dot at the middle top) - when you open the app, is your camera turned on? Also, by 'no camera attached...go into the hardware', do you mean that you looked in the 'System Information' report, as in my attachment below and the 'Camera' selection is not listed or shows nothing? Finally, have you rebooted your computer? Dave :)

Hi again - looked up your computer at EveryMac (pic below w/ blue box added) and you have a 720p HD webcam - I'm assuming that this worked fine in the past - correct?

With a little googling, I found this ARTICLE related to VDCAssistant; there were some other related hits - 1 and 2 - take a look and see if the suggestions help - caveat - I've not needed to 'repair' my iSight cameras so have not tried any of these potential solutions - if still unsuccessful, you probably need to contact Apple or make an appointment at a Genius Bar, if there is a nearby Apple store. Good luck - Dave :)

Have you or somebody worked on or opened up your MBP recently? Maybe one of the connections didn't get fully connected?
